According to Vanity Fair, Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie were married from 2000 until their divorce was completed in 2003. They met on the set of Pushing Tin and married at the Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Jolie adopted her son, Maddox, from a Cambodian orphanage while they were married in 2002. Jolie and Thornton divorced just a few months after Maddox was adopted.

The couple had an appointment with a pastor in Los Angeles in May, and he assisted them in making their marriage legal (via MSN). According to WhosDatedWho, she was 24 years old at the time they met and he was 20 years her older.

Angelina Jolie is well-known for her films and charitable efforts. The Maleficent actress’s high-profile romances, including her former marriage to Brad Pitt, keep her in the headlines as well.

They each expressed their opinion on the causes for the breakup. Surprisingly, they both blamed the split on different factors.

According to Vanity Fair, the cause of their split was said to be Thornton’s adultery while on tour with his band, the Billy Bob Thornton Band. According to the publication, Thornton rejected the allegations, but Jolie claimed at the time that there may be some truth to them. Despite the breakup of their romance, the two are still close. Thornton told Us Weekly in 2019, “We’re good friends. We’ve been friends for years and years and years.”

“So we keep up with each other,” he added. “She’s not in town a lot, so we don’t see each other much, but we talk.”

Thornton continued to compliment his ex-wife, saying, “I remember our time together as really being great.” Thornton then went on to offer his perspective on their divorce. “We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle. So, that’s really—that’s the only reason we’re probably not still together, maybe, because of a different path in life we wanted to take.”
