The big-budget thriller Citadel, which is being streamed on Amazon Prime, has made a crude and s**ual jibe about the Duchess of Cambridge.
Starring Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, one of the Duchess of Sussex’s best friends, the five-part spy action series also features Richard Madden and Sen Monro.
The scene in question involves Basto, played by Monro, making an offensive comment about the Duchess whilst Kane, played by Madden, seeks his assistance.
In response to a request for help breaking into the armed forces chief’s office, Basto says: ‘You might as well have asked me how to get between the legs of the Duchess of Cambridge!’
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who plays the leading lady, elite espionage agent Nadia Sinh, has backed Meghan publicly on multiple occasions.
The pair became friends after meeting at an Elle magazine event in 2016, and Chopra Jonas later interviewed the Duchess of Sussex for her now-defunct blog, The Tig.
The two were also spotted at Broadway’s Hamilton theatre production.
The Duchess of Sussex’s favourites include the Disney movie The Little Mermaid.
A critic who saw an early screening of the live-action remake claimed that the script contained a dig at Kate.
In the scene where Ariel and Prince Eric meet, he guesses her name as Diana and Catherine before receiving a negative reaction.
Diana was the name of Prince Harry’s late mother, and Catherine is Kate’s full name.
Ms Chopra Jonas appeared to ignore Kate and Prince William when they were clapped into the Royal Box at Wimbledon in 2021.
Several royal watchers suggested that this was a snub after Meghan made remarks about Kate during her Oprah Winfrey interview.
Ms Chopra Jonas wrote an open letter in 2018 about her friend before the royal wedding, around the time that Meghan made it onto the TIME 100 list.
She said that Meghan is an important influencer in a world that needs strong public figures to respect and look up to.
The Bollywood actress, who has been friends with the Duchess for three years, has said that Meghan can handle criticism due to her progressive and modern outlook.
The pair connected through their similarities in how they see the world and as girls.
The two were hit with claims of a feud earlier in 2019 after Chopra Jonas failed to attend Meghan’s baby shower.
She laughed off the rumours during an interview on Watch What Happens Live, insisting that it was simply not true.
Citadel is one of the most expensive television shows ever made, with a production budget of almost £300 million.
It premiered on April 28 and has recently been commissioned for a second season.
