Keanu Reeves says it would be an honor for him to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor discussed the possibility in a recent interview with Esquire.

The Matrix star was asked whether he would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he seemed to be extremely receptive to the concept.

When asked what he thought of the MCU, the actor said, “Isn’t it bigger than a universe? It’s almost like a multiverse… It’s a Marvel-verse.”

He continued: “It would be an honour. There’s some really amazing directors, and visionaries, and they’re doing something no one’s ever really done.”

“It’s special in that sense in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. So it’d be cool to be a part of that.”

He has made 68 films in his stellar 35-year Hollywood career, which is quite a feat. Reeves discussed the kind of narrative he enjoys the best, after appearing in everything from action to romantic movies.

“There’s always a relationship–a drama, a circumstance–in storytelling. But for me, it’s cool when a work of art can entertain but also be inspirational or challenging or–I’m gonna bring up ye olde Bard–hold the mirror up. It’s much more rewarding because it means that you’re getting into it,” he added.

Reeves continued, “Asking questions. Looking at the diamond and seeing which ways the light refracts and reflects. It can be everything from ‘Be excellent to each other’ in the circumstances of Bill and Ted, and those characters going against all odds, to The Matrix, which is, you know, ‘What truth?’ Confronting systems of control and thinking about will, and love, and who we are and how we are.”

At a press conference for Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios said that Reeves is approached “for almost every film we make” while at a presser for Spider-Man: Far From Home. He added, “I don’t know when, if, or ever he’ll join the MCU, but we very much want to figure out the right way to do it.”

Early this year, speculation about Keanu Reeves joining the MCU grew when the official Marvel Entertainment Twitter account sent Reeves a happy birthday before immediately deleting the message.

Many enthusiastic Marvel fans who have placed him in recognizable superhero roles.

One fan said on Twitter, “Manifesting Keanu Reeves in the MCU as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider.”

Another said, “Just start Secret Wars and cast him as the Beyonder already,”  alluding to the all-powerful Marvel figure who presided over a titanic battle of heroes and villains on Battleworld during the 1984 comic crossover event.

Sandra Bullock, Reeves’ close friend and Speed co-star, addressed whether the two had ever been more than friends in an interview with Esquire. “Nope,” she said. “But who knows? Keanu’s a guy who, I feel like, is friends with every woman he’s ever dated.”

“I don’t think there’s anyone who has something horrible to say about him,” she continued.

“So maybe we could have survived. I don’t know. But we didn’t have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for a dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in awe I am of the human being. Would I have been able to say that if he had dumped me and made me angry? Probably not,” she stated.

Reeves also spoke about working with Bullock and whether or not they would ever share the screen once again.

“I sure hope so. She’s such a wonderful artist and person. And, you know, I think we have good chemistry. And it would be really exciting and interesting to get the chance to perform with her again,” he added.

In The Matrix Resurrections, which hits cinemas on December 22, he will reprise his role as Neo. Now you may watch the trailer again.

Jada Pinkett Smith reprises her role as Niobe in The Matrix Resurrections, while new cast members include Priyanka Chopra, Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, and Neil Patrick Harris.

The movie’s screenplay was written by David Mitchell, Aleksander Hemon, and Lana Wachowski. The Matrix series was conceptualized, written, and directed by Lana and her sister Lilly Wachowski.

In addition to The Matrix, Keanu will return as John Wick in the fourth installment of the John Wick trilogy.

The actor has also signed on for a voice role in the DC Universe, although one that does not include a superhero; he will portray a pet in DC League of Super-Pets.
