Tyra Banks is reportedly pushing for a Coyote Ugly revival twenty-one years after the original film was released in theaters, according to Piper Perabo. Perabo and Banks featured alongside Maria Bello, Isabella Miko, and Bridget Moynahan in the legendary Y2K film.

It is based on an article written by Elizabeth Gilbert, a former bartender at the Coyote Ugly bar in real life. Violet Sandford (Perabo) is a singer/songwriter attempting to make it big in New York City. She gets a job at Coyote Ugly before being forced to give up her big-city goals due to a series of misfortunes that leave her jobless and devastated. Violet returns to the city with a renewed sense of purpose and lands a record deal.

The film fared well at the box office. It was not well received by critics. Fans revisit it now when viewing the early 2000 films, which may be one of the reasons Tyra Banks is keen on a Coyote Ugly revival.

Perabo talked about shooting “The Talk” and Jerry O’Connell popping up on set one day on “Coyote Ugly” on Wednesday. “When I was shooting ‘Coyote Ugly’, Jerry, I think you were shooting at a sound stage nearby… and you happened to come through while we were shooting our dance scenes.” O’Connell jokes, “I wanted to audition to be part of the film, but security immediately whisked me out of there… Of course, I remember coming to set. It’s such a great film. It’s just iconic. The musical numbers, you know.”

Perabo also gives an update on the film’s upcoming remake. “Well okay, I can’t say everything about what’s really going on. Tyra wants to do it. So when Tyra gets something in her head, you can’t really shake it loose. So she is pushing and she is pushing with all her might.”

Tyra Banks hasn’t revealed what part she wants to play in the revival, according to Piper Perabo. She’s been a producer for a long time. She appears to be interested in taking on that job, based on the manner she is striving to move the project ahead. While Piper Perabo’s words implied that the tale would be a reboot, there’s opportunity for it to be a sequel set in the same universe rather than a remake of the original film.

In the film business, reboots are becoming increasingly prevalent. Movies and TV programs from the 1990s and early 2000s, such as Will Smith’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air revival, are being brought back into the spotlight for new audiences to discover. There is a lot of nostalgia associated with these earlier forms of media, but bringing back shows or films for the sake of nostalgia frequently results in a disappointing product that either doesn’t live up to the original or is so unlike to the original that the viewer feels duped.

It’s unclear how a Coyote Ugly reboot might appear. Given that Violet had realized her dream at the end of the movie, a relaunch may include a version of “Where Are They Now?” for the characters. The real-life Coyote Ugly in New York City, or one of its other locations across the world, may choose a new inspiration to dance and sing on their cherished counters.
