Keanu Reeves Chooses Between Living as John Wick or Neo in Real Life

Which character would you choose to be: Neo or John Wick? For many Keanu Reeves fans, that’s an intriguing question that will require some consideration.

We are already looking forward to his return to both franchises, with The Matrix Resurrections entering theaters this month and John Wick: Chapter 4 following in 2022.

Reeves is not just a talented actor, but also a master at playing memorable characters. One has to wonder, with so many fantastic identities under his belt, which one he would choose to live as. Fortunately, he recently addressed that question himself, and the answer is unlikely to surprise you.

The renowned actor joined with Matrix castmate Carrie-Anne Moss and newcomer Priyanka Chopra for a special 100th episode of Red Table Talk to explore The Matrix: Resurrections.

“My question is would you rather be John Wick or Neo in real life, and why?”” a fan inquired.

“Lots of ways to go at that,” Reeves says, a little perplexed. “Because we’re here speaking about Resurrections and Matrix Resurrections, I think–and I don’t think John Wick would mind. I think he’d understand. But I think to be able to be with Trinity and have that life with them together and see what would happen– I think John Wick would be like ‘I got your back.’”

Reeves has been in a wide range of films throughout the years, from Bill and Ted to The Matrix, The SpongeBob Movie to John Wick.

The bulk of the characters are cool, but considering that they all have lives worthy of a movie story, I believe it’s safe to assume they wouldn’t have it easy if they lived in the real world.

Keanu Reeves is clearly siding with Neo in this predicament, owing to the life he’d have with Trinity. That seems a lot less sad than the life of loner John Wick, who can’t even keep a cute puppy dog company without something bad happening to it. Killing evil men by the dozen in the sake of revenge is entertaining to watch, but how enjoyable would this be in real life? Even though the perception of danger remains, living in a Matrix world opens up a lot more choices.

It’s a difficult decision to make. John Wick is a genuine badass who often pulls off apparently impossible stunts. However, it’s not like Neo doesn’t do the same thing. It’s nothing to sneeze at to be able to block bullets, fly on command, have uncanny reflexes, and so on. Neo also has the capacity to learn almost anything by downloading it straight into his brain, which is an underappreciated skill.

While Reeves said that he would rather be Neo, he also noted that this version of the character is distinct from the one seen in The Matrix Revolutions 18 years ago. In a recent interview with Uproxx, the actor stated that his character, Thomas Anderson, remains the same in certain essential ways as before, but is now more mature.

Reeves explained, “He’s still doubting Thomas. It’s just an older, more experienced doubting Thomas.”

Fans will be able to see Reeves in character as Neo when The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters next week, but fans of Wick will have to wait a little longer, as the fourth installment of the action-packed trilogy is planned to hit theaters next year, followed by a fifth picture at an undetermined date.
