Ryan Reynolds has said that he’s taking “a little sabbatical” which means Deadpool 3 may be further away than we first believed.

In a lengthy Instagram post on October 17, the actor stated that he will be taking a break from acting for a bit. He revealed the news on the last day of filming Spirited, his forthcoming Christmas musical picture with Will Farrell and Octavia Spencer.

He said alongside multiple behind-the-scenes photographs from the shoot, “Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago. Singing, dancing, and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer… Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second [of] working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.”

Ryan confessed that the project “made a lot of dreams come true” and that it was “the right moment for a breather.”

“These days, kindness matters as much as talent,” he wrote. “I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both.”

Spirited is a musical reworking of the holiday classic A Christmas Carol that will premiere on Apple TV+ soon. Reynolds will portray Ebenezer Scrooge, a sad industrialist, while Ferrell will play the Ghost of Christmas Present.

While we’re sure Blake Lively is rooting for Reynolds in real life, she couldn’t help but tease him online. She commented, “Michael Caine did it first,” referring to the recent revelation that the revered British actor’s most recent job will be his last (though Caine has since clarified that he has not retired from acting).

Fans of the actor were eager to express their displeasure, with Ryan taking a screenshot of the remarks after viewing them. “A sabbatical can last anywhere from two months to a year. In general, six months is the standard length of time for a paid sabbatical. It gives you enough time and flexibility to such things as travel, study, or complete a major side project,” the screenshot read.

Reynolds hasn’t said how long he wants to take a break from acting. At least three prospective projects, including the highly anticipated “Deadpool 3,” are in jeopardy.

Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios announced earlier this year that the actor has been “working very hard” on the writing for the threequel.

Following Disney’s acquisition of the franchise in 2019, Feige revealed that a release date has been set.

“It will be rated R,” the Marvel chairman previously stated. “We are working on a script right now, and Ryan is overseeing a script right now. It’s exciting for it to have begun… [Deadpool is a] very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature.”

Reynolds told Collider in August that there was a “70 percent chance” that “Deadpool 3” will begin production in 2022, despite Marvel Studios has yet to name a director.

UPDATE: The reason why

NOV. 1

Ryan Reynolds is providing fans more details on why he decided to take a break from acting for a bit, revealing that he made the decision to spend more time with his family.

The Deadpool star told The Hollywood Reporter on November 1 that he is taking a break from his job to be with the ladies in his life.

Reynolds explained, “I’m just trying to create a little bit more space for my family. You know, you really don’t get that time back.”
