Dwayne Johnson Speaks Out on 2024 Presidential Run, he’s done his ‘research’

The title “President Dwayne Johnson” has a nice ring to it, but the actor isn’t confident he’ll ever run for office.

Johnson’s name has come up several times as a possible presidential candidate (especially in the wake of Donald Trump’s successful campaign as a first-time candidate), and the “Jungle Cruise” star remains committed to considering the idea – though he is refreshingly candid about where he falls short.

Johnson was quizzed about the prospect of running for president in a new Vanity Fair piece released Tuesday, something the Jungle Cruise actor has hinted at in the past.

“I don’t think our Founding Fathers ever envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pickup truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club — but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people,” Johnson remarked in the interview.

He told Vanity Fair that he has done a “small amount of research and analysis to see where this comes from and to see what it could look like in the future,” after seeing evidence that many of his fans are like the idea. He also stated that “indicators are all very positive — in, for example, 2024, and in, for example, 2028,” adding that he isn’t ruling it out.

He did not indicate which party he will run under or whether he would run against current President Joe Biden in 2024. He openly backed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2020 election.

The actor added, “You know, at the end of the day, I don’t know the first thing about politics. I don’t know the first thing about policy. I care deeply about our country. I care about every… American who bleeds red, and that’s all of them. And—there’s no delusion here—I may have some decent leadership qualities, but that doesn’t necessarily make me a great presidential candidate. That’s where I am today.”

Johnson also talked about his continuing battle with Fast & Furious franchise co-star Vin Diesel, who was the subject of the Rock’s notorious “candy ass” social media post in 2016.

“That just wasn’t my best day,” Johnson said of the now-deleted tweet during filming of The Fate of the Furious, in which they didn’t share any sequences in order to “forgo drama,” but feuded regardless. He doesn’t regret what he wrote — “I meant what I said” — but that he shouldn’t have “shared it” with the rest of the world.

“It caused a firestorm. Yet interestingly enough… [it was] as if every single crew member found their way to me and either quietly thanked me or sent me a note,” Johnson said. “But, yeah, it wasn’t my best day, sharing that. I shouldn’t have shared that. Because at the end of the day, that goes against my DNA. I don’t share things like that. And I take care of that kind of bullsh** away from the public. They don’t need to know that. That’s why I say it wasn’t my best day.”

He just finished filming his first DC film, “Black Adam,” which will be released next year, and he’s gearing up to star with Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot in the Netflix blockbuster “Red Notice.” Johnson is also set to star in an original holiday film based on an idea by his producing partner and president of production at Seven Bucks Productions, Hiram Garcia. A “Jungle Cruise” sequel is already in the works, with Johnson and Emily Blunt confirmed to return. The Amazon film, titled “Red One,” might begin production next year as the next project on Johnson’s busy schedule.
