Ryan Reynolds Interested In Playing James Bond, But On One Condition

Ryan Reynolds swiftly became a fan favorite among superhero and movie enthusiasts. While he has been in blockbusters such as Deadpool and Deadpool 2, as well as Free Guy, he appears to be eyeing another major project. Ryan Reynolds stated he’d be interested in becoming the new James Bond if certain criteria were met.

“No Time to Die” directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, premiered in theaters on October 8, 2021, bringing the Daniel Craig-007 era to a close in dramatic style. While this fact has prompted some fans to revisit Craig’s past four films for nostalgic purposes, others remain enthusiastic about the future. After all, it’s difficult to resist the question: who will play Bond next?

Rumors have circulated about No Time to Die’s Lasha Lynch or The Suicide Squad’s Idris Elba stepping into the part, while other actors, including British actor Tom Holland and the distinctly non-British Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, have showed interest.

Ryan Reynolds aspires to be the next James Bond if the opportunity arises. The Times chatted with the Deadpool actor about his career and personal life. During the interview, the actor expressed a strong desire to play that legendary role. “I hear they’re looking for a new Bond,” Reynolds said. “Could you accept a Canadian sipping gin and tonic instead of a martini? If so, I’m interested.” Since the idea is so unusual, many fans would appreciate it.

James Bond has been a part of popular culture for decades, and unlike other fictional characters that have survived in the current day since his debut in the mid-twentieth century, he hasn’t evolved much. He still wears stylish suits, saves the world with a variety of typically ridiculous inventions, woos as many ladies as he can, and occasionally goes the bar. His favorite drink is still the Vesper Martini – shaken, not stirred, of course.

Reynolds confessed that a martini was not his preferred drink. In fact, he likes gin so much that he owns Aviation Gin, a gin firm.

Trending:

“I bought a gin company because I like gin,” the Marvel star said. “Deadpool prefers tequila because he is self-confessedly trash and would drink anything with a worm in it. I take more care with what goes in my mouth.”

Given Reynolds’ involvement with Aviation American Gin, it’s not surprising that he’d want to switch up the martini for his favored alcoholic beverage. This would undoubtedly cause quite a commotion among traditionalists. Still, the decision for the next Bond will be important for the filmmaking crew.

Despite the fact that several of his entries received mixed reviews, audiences flocked to see his films whenever they were released. It’s incredible to believe that for the first time in over two decades, this series is without a confirmed main actor.

Regardless, it stands to reason that he has next to no chance of portraying James Bond right now. Reynolds is Canadian, making him ineligible for the traditionally British-only role.

Barbara Broccoli, the franchise’s executive producer, stated that they want to first celebrate Craig’s tenure on the role. She didn’t want to rush into searching for a Bond until a year after it is released.

With the 60th anniversary of James Bond coming up in 2022, she stated that they are “looking forward to the new chapter.”

Ryan Reynolds has portrayed a variety of characters during his career, but none feel quite equivalent to the famous figure of James Bond. He’s been an astronaut, a superhero, an art thief, a talking Pikachu, and a racing snail, but he’s only been a spy once, in the underappreciated action thriller Safe House. He has, however, shown his action chops in films such as The Hitman’s Bodyguard and the Deadpool trilogy.

The Rock has also lately thrown his hat into the ring for the job. Both actors shared the screen during Red Notice. It would be hilarious to watch them both have to audition for this position at the same time.

“Yes, my grandfather was a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery,” Johnson said in a Q&A video interview with Esquire. “It was very, very cool. And I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t wanna be a villain. Gotta be Bond.”

Another strong frontrunner comes from another Marvel star from Sony. Tom Hardy, the Venom star, is still a fan favorite for many.

“Tom Hardy has been our favorite for a long time, and he remains the obvious choice for a like-for-like Daniel Craig replacement,” William Hill spokesperson Rupert Adams told Syfy. “That said, if they want to shake up the franchise, then they could do a lot worse than Rege-Jean Page, and that is where my money is going.”
