The actor was recently offered a role in James Gunn’s film The Suicide Squad, and it took him only two minutes to say yes.
During an interview with Den Of Geek, James Gunn, the director of The Suicide Squad, revealed that he kept Stallone in mind while writing the character of King Shark.
He knew that he wanted to use an animal in the movie and chose King Shark, a character from the newer runs of Suicide Squad comics.
Gunn felt that Stallone was the perfect choice to portray the animated character.
Gunn said, “I wrote this role for you in The Suicide Squad.
It won’t take too much of your time.”
Stallone replied, “Oh yeah?”
To which Gunn said, “Yeah.
It’s a big, kinda chubby, human-eating shark.”
Stallone’s response was, “Anything for you, brother.”
In the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, Stallone played the role of a man-eater shark.
In an interview with the actor, he shared that he felt sympathetic towards his character.
“He had the intelligence to know that no one liked him.
He was ugly and completely rejected.
And he had a bad habit of eating people.
So I thought, he kind of has nobility among all his defects.
But, the one thing that I think the audience is going to like is that he’s dying for companionship.
He’s reaching out to people and he’s constantly being rejected, so you have a great deal of sympathy for him as well as comedic interest.”
Stallone further stated that he wanted to give special effects with his voice in the film.
He said, “I wanted to come up with something a little punchy, that kind of a thing.
But punchy with menace.
I really enjoyed it.
You can cut loose with your voice in a way you can’t with pure physicality.
Because they’d have you arrested, think you’re having a fit.”
The Suicide Squad features other popular actors such as Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, and others.
It grossed $167 million worldwide and is streaming on Netflix.
