Angelina Jolie Embraces getting older and “being as natural as possible”

Angelina Jolie has revealed the very personal reason for her refusal to dwell on her age.

Angelina Jolie made an emotional point about why it’s vital to accept getting older, alluding to her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer in 2007 at the age of 56.

In an interview with InStyle magazine, Jolie remarked, “I look in the mirror and I see that I look like my mother, and that warms me. I also see myself ageing, and I love it because it means I’m alive—I’m living and getting older. Don’t love having a random dark spot from a pregnancy, sure. I see my flaws. But what I see that I like isn’t about a structure or an appearance. It’s more that I see my family in my face. I see my age.”

In a recent interview with British Vogue, the 45-year-old Oscar winner and philanthropist stated that she saw aging as a “victory” because her mother died in her 50s following an eight-year struggle with illness.

‘I do like being older.’ She told Vogue, “I feel much more comfortable in my forties than I did when I was younger.”

‘Maybe because… I don’t know… maybe because my mom didn’t live very long, so there’s something about age that feels like a victory instead of a sadness for me.’

Jolie reveals that she has a family skin doctor, which is not unusual in America. “I’ve had the same dermatologist since I was 11; her name is Rhonda Rand. It’s who my mother brought me to when I was little with my first scar,” she told InStyle.

“To have somebody who is very encouraging of being as natural as possible has really helped me, I think. When I got pregnant, I had darker areas [on my face] that got darker. So I do IPL [intense pulsed light] every once in a while.”

According to the International Business Times, despite being one of the most beautiful women on the globe, Jolie believes that there are more significant attributes of a good person than how they look. “There’s nothing you can put on your face to cover up if your mind is blank and your heart is dark,” Jolie was quoted as saying.

She also said that the last several years have been challenging for her and her six children, notwithstanding the pandemic, a tumultuous divorce and subsequent custody fight with ex-husband Brad Pitt, whom she divorced in 2016. She claims that this has given her newfound motivation to be optimistic about the future.

‘The past few years have been pretty hard. I’ve been focusing on healing our family. It’s slowly coming back, like the ice melting and the blood returning to my body,’ Jolie said. ‘I’m not there yet. But I hope to be. I’m planning on it.’

‘I’m looking forward to my fifties—I feel that I’m gonna hit my stride,’ she continued.
