Henry Cavill is one of the frontrunners in fans’ dream casting for the next James Bond, and a new deepfake film tells us what the Man of Steel star might be like in the role. Or, at the very least, the Timothy Dalton version of 007 from the 1980s.

StryderHD, a deepfake/VFX artist, has given a simulation for a potential Henry Cavill James Bond tenure with a new film that sets The Witcher and Man of Steel actor into 1987 movie The Living Daylights over Timothy Dalton’s countenance. Indeed, the video—which emphasizes the eerily realistic aspect of startlingly accessible, constantly growing deepfake technology—effectively depicts how effortless Cavill would be in the role of Bond.

Some parts clearly work better than others right away, but the total impact is still really stunning. Looking at Henry Cavill’s expression during M’s briefing and other serious conversational moments in The Living Daylights, it feels like a great match for Timothy Dalton’s restrained delivery. Cavill’s facial expressions fit the troubled attitude of Dalton’s 007 as a more serious James Bond that indicated a return to Ian Fleming’s original material.

One of the reasons many people want Henry Cavill to portray James Bond is that he almost filled the role before. When 007 was reinvented for Casino Royale, Cavill was thought to be a candidate for the role, but it was judged that he was simply too young for the iteration of the character they were aiming to depict. Daniel Craig was the sole casting choice, and he has had a wonderfully successful tenure as Bond over the course of five films. Cavill is now the same age as Craig was when Casino Royale was cast, which supposedly makes him the ideal James Bond age.

“If [Bond producers] Barbara and Mike are interested in me in any capacity to be a part of their movies, then I will gladly have that discussion with them, and that would be something I’d be very keen to explore further,” Henry Cavill told The Movie Dweeb when asked about the James Bond fantasy casting. He was expressly asked if he’d be interested in playing a villain, and his response implies he’d be just as eager to do so as he’d be to play 007 himself.

Here, we get more consistent effects, as Cavill’s visage blends better with the more gritty adventure of the Dalton duology. There is one continuous flaw, and that is Timothy Dalton’s hairdo, which doesn’t really suit Cavill’s looks; however, this might be a prejudice based on what we’ve seen the actor don in the past.

No Time to Die is now showing in cinemas around the country. Henry Cavill, on the other hand, will next be seen in the long-awaited second season of the popular Netflix series The Witcher, which will be available to watch on Netflix beginning December 17.
