In a recent interview, Winona Ryder said that she and Keanu Reeves have been married for the last 25 years. Winona told Entertainment Weekly that a genuine Romanian priest was used for the wedding filmed in Dracula while on the press tour for their new film Destination Wedding.

“We actually got married in ‘Dracula,’” she told Entertainment Weekly. “No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life.”

They tied the knot on Valentine’s Day, which just makes it cuter.

Ryder portrays Mina Murray, Jonathan Harker (Reeves)’s fiancée, in Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of the Bram Stoker book. Coppola did, in fact, hire a genuine Romanian priest to officiate at the fictitious protagonists’ wedding, so it wasn’t all make-believe.

Winona explained, while Keanu was sitting right next to her. He didn’t seem to remember the ceremony, but Winona reminded him. “It was on Valentine’s Day,” she said.

“Oh my gosh, we’re married,” Reeves said.

After they both presented at the Independent Spirit Awards in 1989, they became friends. Ryder claims she had a “raging crush” on Reeves, which she says she still has. Meanwhile, Reeves claims that he, too, has a “raging crush” on Heathers’ actress.

According to IMDB, Ryder and Reeves feature in a new film in which they portray wedding guests who “develop a mutual affection for each other despite themselves.”

It’s impossible to say whether a Romanian wedding ceremony is legally binding in the United States, but it’s fun to fantasize about a world where two 1990s stars met and married for a quarter-decade.

Ryder turns out to be far from the only one who believes Keanu Reeves is her spouse. The film’s director also believes they are a real-life couple.

“This is pretty authentic, and I think very beautiful because we actually did the ceremony and had the priest do the ceremony,” said Coppola. “So in a sense, when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony.”

Ryder was so smitten with Reeves that she requested that Francis Ford Coppola cast him as her romantic companion in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Every day on set, according to the Stranger Things actress, she looked forward to seeing Reeves.

“I have these journals, and I just pulled one out recently, and it was from around the time of Dracula,” she told Vanity Fair. “The text: ‘angst, angst, angst, angst, thank God for Keanu. Thank God I’m going to see Keanu.’”

Ryder tells Reeves, “I was always just so happy when you were around because there was so much, sort of, trauma.”

The Heathers star has made quite the comeback since her nonstop acting days in the ‘80s and ‘90s. She didn’t have as much success in the early 2000s. She told Marie Claire in 2017 that she was going through a hard patch, but it appears to be gone now. She earned a name for herself as Joyce Byers in Netflix’s Stranger Things, which has a cult following. She told the magazine that her re-emergence into the spotlight, as well as her renewed celebrity, is “overwhelming.”
