On Tuesday, actor Keanu Reeves told a Los Angeles court that he did not knock down a paparazzo photographer to avoid being snapped, claiming that the guy fell while walking backward.

The “Matrix” star testified for almost an hour in a civil complaint brought against him by Alison Silva, a Brazilian photographer who claimed he lost wages due to damage to his wrist sustained in the March 2007 incident.

According to Silva, Reeves was driving a black 1996 Porsche 911 Cabrio when it hit him on Avenida Tranquila in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Both men testified in yesterday’s civil trial, which is still ongoing today. Silva is demanding $40,000 in medical expenditures as a result of his injuries.

Reeves told jurors that he drove his Porsche gently forward in order to persuade the paparazzo, Alison Silva, to get out of the way.

“My intention was to show I had the right of way,” Reeves said.

“He was coming up to me as a paparazzo taking my picture,” Reeves said. “To me, it wasn’t great that he was there.”

According to the photographer’s lawsuit, Reeves pulled away from the curb and “drove forward in a sudden, erratic, and dangerous manner” and “struck (Silva).”

Reeves had been visiting his sister, who had an eating disorder, Silva told the court.

Reeves stated unequivocally that he did not hit Silva with his bumper.

Reeves’ lawyer, Alfred W. Gerisch, questioned the actor, “Did you hit him?”

“No,” said Reeves.

Gerisch questioned, “Are you sure of that?”

“Yes,” replied Reeves.

However, Reeves said that the only time his automobile came into touch with Silva was when the paparazzo knelt and placed his hand on the hood of his vehicle. He then began retracing his steps and fell.

Silva, on the other hand, testified that Reeves’ Porsche’s bumper collided with his knee and sent him backward. After that, he claims he fell and had a significant wrist injury, restricting his capacity to work.

Reeves elicited intermittent giggles from the audience when he appeared irritated by some of the questions presented to him by Silva’s counsel, Joseph Farzam.

The attorney questioned if Reeves used hand gestures or honked his horn to persuade Silva to move.

“He was in front of a starting car,” Reeves testified. “It’s common sense to me.”

Silva is set to testify later in the day on Tuesday.

The civil trial comes after a spate of conflicts between photographers and celebrities in Los Angeles this year, including rapper Kanye West, “300” star Gerard Butler, and actors Matthew McConaughey and Pierce Brosnan.
