Priyanka Chopra Jonas, star of the television series Quantico, recently shared her thoughts on her move to America from India and how Hollywood stardom compares to that of Bollywood.
Chopra Jonas, who rose to fame after winning Miss World 2000, was one of Bollywood’s biggest stars for over a decade before leaving India and moving to Los Angeles in 2015.
She spoke about her decision to leave Bollywood and pursue a career in Hollywood during an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard.

She noted that American entertainment doesn’t compare to Bollywood in terms of stardom, saying, “I don’t think you guys have seen that stardom.
I don’t think Tom Cruise has seen that. I’m not that, but we have actors with that allegiance and love.”

While she held the Indian film industry in high regard, she criticized the politics involved, saying, “The structure of the film industry is constantly evolving.
“When I was there, it was very archaic.
“We had to walk into a room with 25 people, give our introduction, say our name, and tell them what we had done.
“It was like an auction.”
She added that the politics in Hollywood are different, with a more collaborative approach.
Chopra Jonas also addressed the issue of representation in Hollywood.
She noted that while there have been some positive changes, there’s still a long way to go.
She said, “I do think there are more people who are conscious now, but there’s still not enough representation.
We’re still having to fight for representation.” Chopra Jonas wants to be part of the solution by creating more opportunities for people of color in the industry.
Despite her move to Hollywood, Chopra Jonas remains connected to her Indian roots.
She spoke about her work with UNICEF and how it allows her to give back to her country.
She said, “It’s very important for me to be connected to my roots, to where I came from, to my culture.”
Chopra Jonas wants to use her platform to bring attention to important issues, such as education and gender equality.
