During a recent appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, actress Sally Field revealed that her Smokey and the Bandit co-star Burt Reynolds was her worst onscreen kiss.

When asked by a fan which actor was her worst onscreen kiss, Field responded, “Okay, this is gonna be a shocker. Hold on, folks… Burt Reynolds.”

Field further elaborated that Reynolds “was just not something he really did very well.

I could go into detail, but you don’t want to hear it.”

Field and Reynolds met on the set of Smokey and the Bandit and went on to date on and off for five years.

Despite Reynolds frequently describing Field as the love of his life, Field’s memoir, In Pieces, which was released in 2018 just days after Reynolds’ death, detailed their relationship as being “a perfect match of flaws,” according to Vanity Fair.

Field further explained that Reynolds was controlling and not good for her.

In addition to their relationship struggles, it seems that Reynolds’ kissing technique also left something to be desired.

When host Andy Cohen and fellow guest star Idina Menzel asked for more details about the kiss, Field simply said, “Just a lot of drooling was involved.”

Reynolds’ unconventional views on their relationship also raised eyebrows, as he once stated that he had been in love with Field since she was seven years old.

However, despite their relationship and Reynolds’ feelings for her, Field explained that he was not good for her and that she largely hadn’t spoken to him in the last 30 years of his life.

“He had somehow invented in his rethinking of everything that I was more important to him than he had thought, but I wasn’t. He just wanted to have the thing he didn’t have.

I just didn’t want to deal with that,” Field told Variety in March.

Despite the end of their relationship and Field’s less-than-flattering account of their time together, she acknowledged that Reynolds would “always be in my heart and my history.”

Nonetheless, it seems that his kissing technique was not one of his redeeming qualities.
