After a viral video of him giving up his subway seat emerged, Keanu Reeves was lauded as a “true gentleman.”

Since his debut in the late 1980s with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Reeves has enjoyed an unusually long and successful career. Since then, the actor has managed to put together a succession of blockbuster smashes while simultaneously wowing audiences with his off-screen persona.

Cinemonkeys, a popular pop culture Instagram account, recently published the video, which has received over 40,000 likes. It was captioned: “Leaving his seat to a woman on the subway. True gentleman.”

The actor can be seen sitting on a train that is progressively becoming busier in the video, and as a woman boards holding a shopping bag, he offers her his seat like the gentleman he is – in the video, which was recorded 10 years ago.

Reeves then walks over to a neighboring pole, holding onto it while carrying his backpack.

The video has received over 27 million views and is well-known on the internet. It was one among the points raised in a Time magazine feature published in 2019 that examined Reeves’ role as “the Internet’s soul mate.”

Many people have applauded the actor because of this modest gesture. ‘This human being’s soul honestly shines so bright,’ one user remarked, while another added, ‘A true gentleman.’

Other comments read:

“Wonder if she realized who he was.”

“Look at this distinguished gentleman.”

“I adore this man.”

“This hand is a different kind [of] art.”

Of course, quips regarding his recent work in the John Wick movie were made, with one user joking, “He’s on his way to avenge his dog.”

Others merely joked about how they would have handled the situation, saying things like, “I’d just sit on his lap.”

Reeves recently appeared in Bill & Ted Face the Music and will resume his role as Neo in the fourth Matrix picture, which is set to hit theaters in December 2021. He’ll also reprise his role as John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 4, which is set to hit theaters in 2022.
