Kristen Stewart has said that she has probably only done a handful of “top-to-bottom beautiful” films in her acting career.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the “Spencer” actor said that she had only done five very terrific films out of “45 or 50” overall.

The 31-year-old actress has appeared in 47 feature films throughout her career and is expanding her portfolio with various dramatic parts. Stewart made her film debut at the age of 12 as Jodie Foster’s daughter in David Fincher’s 2002 movie Panic Room. Years later, Stewart rose to fame as Bella Swan, the main character in the Twilight saga. Despite being panned by critics (and some fans), the Twilight films were a huge box office triumph. Following her Twilight role, Stewart established herself as a serious actor with more somber roles in films like Still Alice and Woody Allen’s Café Society.

“It’s a total crapshoot,” said Stewart. “I’ve probably made five really good films, out of 45 or 50 films? Ones that I go, ‘Wow, that person made a top-to-bottom beautiful piece of work!’”

Among her favorite films are those directed by Olivier Assayas, including Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper.

“I’d have to look at my credit list. But they are few and far between,” she continued. “That doesn’t mean I regret the experience [of making them].”

Stewart noted, however, that she “only regretted saying yes to a couple of films” since filming them “wasn’t fun,” and that the cast and crew of these films were typically “bracing until the end.”

“The worst is when you’re in the middle of something and know that not only is it probably going to be a bad movie, but we’re all bracing until the end,” she added.

Stewart declined to reveal which films made her feel this way. “No! I’m not a mean person — I’m not going to call people out in public,” she said.

Stewart became the first American actress to receive a French Cesar Award, the equivalent of an Oscar, in 2015. Stewart won Best Supporting Actress, indicating a shift toward a more serious oeuvre.

Stewart told The Daily Mail earlier this month that she only had one regret about her performance in Spencer, which opens in cinemas on November 5. “I’m not a mum yet,” she said. “It’s the one part of playing her that I felt disloyal about.”

Critics have also lauded Spencer’s performance. It was regarded as “memorable, very mercurial” by Geoffrey Macnab of The Independent.

“She’s fidgety, charming, impulsive and often funny – an immediately ingratiating presence,” he wrote.

She added, “But I think now I’m going to be a little more careful. I think I have a better nose for what’s going to be fruitful for me personally, as an experience, if not necessarily what’s going to thrive out in the world.”

Stewart stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she “used to be really intentionally the opposite of precious in terms of choosing projects.”

While this was “good for a minute,” the actor went on to say, “But I think now I’m going to be a little more careful. I think I have a better nose for what’s going to be fruitful for me personally, as an experience, if not necessarily what’s going to thrive out in the world.”
