Gwyneth Paltrow is Named Most Hated Celebrity: This is her reaction

Gwyneth Paltrow can’t believe Chris Brown is more loved than her.

The actress was named the “Most Hated Celebrity” by Star magazine, beating out Kristen Stewart (No. 2), John Mayer (No. 4), Madonna (No. 7), Justin Bieber (No. 8), Anne Hathaway (No. 9), Lindsay Lohan (No. 16), Chris Brown (No. 20) and other celebrities just weeks after People magazine featured her on the cover of its annual “World’s Most Beautiful” issue. Paltrow expressed her confusion about the title to Stephen Sackur, host of BBC News’ Hard Talk, at Cannes Lion. “First of all, I was like, ‘I’m the most hated celebrity? More than, like, Chris Brown?'” she inquired. “What did I do?”

During the conversation, Paltrow defended herself by saying, “All I can do is be my authentic self. If you know me, then you know who I am and that I have fun and eat and am so appreciative for my life. But I think there are things about me that make people draw conclusions.”

The mother of two is well aware that her upbringing can irritate some people. (Paltrow is the daughter of Blythe Danner, an actress, and Bruce Paltrow, a late film director.) She did, however, tell Sackur that she worked hard to get to where she is now.

“For example, there is the perception that I grew up very wealthy and that I was given, you know, that I was sort of raised with a silver spoon in my mouth, which inspires a lot of resentment.”

“My parents did well, and I was able to go to a fantastic school, and we grew up in New York City, but the minute I left my college to try to pursue acting, my father [the late producer Bruce Paltrow] was really supportive. But he said, you know, ‘You are completely on your own.’ So, he never gave me anything. I never had any supplementation, he never helped me with my rent, I never had a trust fund,” Gwyneth claimed. “So the idea that I am spoiled or that I didn’t work for what I have is just not accurate, but I can see how somebody might have that perception.”

Also, the Academy Award-winning actress has never met a fry she didn’t enjoy.

“People tend to think that I eat just seaweed and a bit of air. I have never had a horrible experience with French fries. French fries are my life!”

Despite their divorce, she retains a close friendship with ex-husband Chris Martin, with whom she maintained a tight friendship after they announced their split in 2014.

Paltrow also talked about the vitriol she received after her now-famous “conscious uncoupling” with ex-husband Chris in 2014, saying she had no idea it would “inspire so much conversation.”

“It’s funny, because at the inception, everyone was like, ‘What the hell is this? These people are crazy!’ And that’s true,” she said with a laugh. “Over time, now what I hear is, ‘Thank you so much for showing me another way that you can remain a family — even though you’re not a couple — and make it a less traumatic experience for the kids.'”

“I think ultimately it’s had a very positive impact,” she continued.
