Kristen Stewart wasn’t in Snow White sequel because of cheating scandal

Kristen Stewart stated that she was “slut-shamed” after being seen kissing director Rupert Sanders, leading to her absence in the sequel to the 2012 picture Snow White and the Huntsman.

In 2012, photos of Stewart and Sanders kissing surfaced while she was dating her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson.

Sanders was married to model Liberty Ross for a year before divorcing him the following year.

Shortly after the photos were released, Stewart offered a public apology, claiming she was “sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused” and that “this momentary indiscretion” had “jeopardized the most important thing in her life,” her relationship with Pattinson.

Original actor Charlize Theron appeared with Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, but Stewart was not recast as the Disney princess.

Kristen said in a recent interview with SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show that she was passed over for the sequel because she was involved in a high-profile controversy — presumably alluding to her widely-publicized affair with the franchise’s director, Rupert Sanders — as reported by The Independent.

“We lived in a different time then, you know what I mean? I feel like the slut-shaming that went down was so absurd,” Stewart said during the interview. “And they should’ve put me in that movie! It would’ve been better. Not to be a dick, but … They didn’t put me in that movie because I went through such a highly publicized scandal, and so they were like scared of touching that.”

“That was a really hard period of my life, I was really young, I didn’t really know how to deal with that. I made some mistakes. And honestly, it’s no one’s business,” Kristen said of how the controversy affected her personal life.

“Basically, what I’m saying is, the work to me genuinely was ignored in a really sort of frivolous, silly, petty way,” she added. “For a group of adult people who were supposed to be running studios and making films? Honestly, the film industry in Hollywood is so fear-based. I think they’re idiots, because if you take a little risk and make something good, people will watch it and like it and pay you.”

And, given that public affairs are nothing new in Hollywood, I can see why Stewart perceived her removal from the film as misogynistic. She cheated, which is horrible, but the film industry has given rapists, domestic abusers, and racists full-fledged atonement tours. Plus, as much as I admire Chris Hemsworth (who was left to carry the Huntsman sequel in the eponymous role), he has repeatedly demonstrated that he is not the leading man the media desires—at least not yet.

Kristen had previously spoken about not being cast in the film back in 2016, admitting that she was pleased she had declined a cameo part. She also denied that the media drama was the cause for her absence at the time, but now she’s speaking openly about it.

Stewart’s next significant part will be in the Charlie’s Angels revival, which will be released on November 29 and will feature Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.
