John Krasinski lost Captain America Role to Chris Evans, Still Jokes About it

John Krasinski has been in the headlines recently due to Marvel rumours. He told Esquire that he still laughs with Chris Evans about his missed Marvel opportunity. Krasinski never lets Cap forget their common history. The two actors are buddies and recently ran into each other. Back when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was only getting started, The Office star auditioned for the Captain America job, but it was ultimately given to Evans. Many people would be heartbroken if this happened, but Krasinski has taken it all with stride. He still jokes with the Marvel actor to this day about it.

“People have a sense that some of us are insanely competitive. I’ve known Chris forever. So as soon as they said Chris Evans got the part, I was like, yeah, look at that guy. Are you kidding me? He is Captain America. And I just saw Chris a couple of weeks ago and we were still laughing about it. I said, ‘I love that you retired in my role.'”

John Krasinski isn’t upset now that he didn’t get the part of Captain America, and he wasn’t angry then. According to John Krasinski, when Chris Evans was cast in the role, he couldn’t be upset since, despite auditioning for the part himself, he believed Chris Evans was the right man for the job. John Krasinski could tell Chris Evans was Captain America just by looking at him.

Reports have persisted that Krasinski may play Mister Fantastic in Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four film. If the celebrity knows anything, he isn’t going to reveal it. He hopes, though, that they haven’t forgotten his phone number.

“I was just about to walk into the worst pun ever, but I was like, that’s a fantastic role. That would be awesome,” the actor explained. “Marvel wrote the playbook on secrecy and awesome sort of tantalizing lay and wait until everything’s announced. I am not committed to the role or anything, but I don’t know when they’re doing it. But if and when they do it, I would love to talk to them about it.”

Krasinski, for one, is a fan choice for Mister Fantastic in the MCU, which will be rebooted by Marvel Studios following Disney’s acquisition of the X-Men and Marvel’s First Family. The actor has previously stated, as well as in his current interview with Esquire, that Marvel has not approached him regarding the possibility of portraying Reed Richards, but he is willing to chat about the role. Even if Krasinski lost out on joining the MCU all those years ago, there’s still a chance he’ll return in one of the franchise’s latter phases – and in a position that’s arguably even more suited to him. For the time being, it’s amusing to hear Krasinski and Evans make jokes about the Captain America role.
