Steve Carell and John Krasinski, co-stars on “The Office,” will reunite onscreen for the first time since leaving Dunder Mifflin in Paramount’s new family film “If.”

The film is planned to debut on Nov. 17, 2023, and is “about a child’s journey to rediscover their imagination.” Krasinski, 42, will direct, write, and produce the film, according to Deadline.

The film will be Steve and John’s first collaboration since the end of their hit comedy in 2013. Michael Scott, played by Carell, was an ineffective and sometimes politically incorrect boss, while Jim Halpert, played by Krasinski, was a salesman/trickster. Although Carell left The Office after season 7, Krasinski stayed for the whole 9-season run.

The sitcom showed the daily life of office workers at the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, and B. J. Novak, as well as Ed Helms, Amy Ryan, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson, James Spader, Ellie Kemper, and Catherine Tate, appeared on the program. Since its debut in 2005, The Office has received significant critical praise and has established itself as a cult classic. The Office was named one of the 100 best television series of all time by Rolling Stone in 2016.

The sitcom was nominated for 42 Primetime Emmy Awards and won five, including Outstanding Comedy Series in season two. In 2006, Carell received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Comedy or Musical for his role in the show.

Along with Carell, Louis Gossett Jr. of “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Roots,” Alan Kim of “Minari,” and Cailey Fleming of “The Walking Dead” have been added to the call sheet. On “IF,” they will join Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Fiona Shaw, who were previously revealed as cast members.

On Tuesday, Krasinski previewed the film on social media with a collage of pictures of the cast, which included Carell, 59, as well as Ryan Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Fiona Shaw, Alan Kim, and Cailey Fleming.

“Ah, what if one day I could assemble my dream cast? What … IF,” Krasinski captioned the post.

In addition to his acting, Krasinski has established himself as a filmmaker to watch. Krasinski made his feature directorial debut with The Hollars in 2016, but it was A Quiet Place in 2018 that placed him on the map for many.

Carell recently featured in Netflix’s “Space Force” and Apple TV Plus’s “The Morning Show,” both workplace dramas. His recent film credits include Jon Stewart’s political comedy “Irresistible,” Adam McKay’s political satire “Vice,” and Universal’s upcoming apolitical animated sequel “Minions: The Rise of Gru.”

Kim is well recognized for his starring role in writer-director Lee Isaac Chung’s uplifting family drama “Minari.” He’s getting ready to star in “Latchkey Kids” with Elsie Fisher, and then “Nora From Queens” with Awkwafina. Fleming, 14, has starred with Jennifer Garner in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the Disney Plus series “Loki,” and “Peppermint.”

If was already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2023 before this. A collaboration between Reynolds and Krasinski sounds enticing, and Waller-Bridge and Shaw, who worked together on Fleabag and Killing Eve, are an equally intriguing pairing. If is now providing the fans Michael and Jim 2.0. Though it’s unclear who will play whom, Krasinski and Carell’s characters should have more than a few moments together.

“Some of the most fun memories, personally or professionally, are intertwined and connected with that show,” Carell told Krasinski as they reflected on their time together.

His former co-star echoed this sentiment, saying, “Without a doubt. Listen, I know everyone’s talking about a reunion, hopefully one day, we just get to reunite as people. And just all get to say hi.”
