Andrew Garfield isn’t only a Spider-Man onscreen; he’s also a real-life superhero. This week, the 30-year-old actor and his girlfriend Emma Stone used their fame to help others, diverting attention away from themselves and toward important causes.

When the duo noticed cameras outside the cafe where they were this week, they decided to take advantage of the chance to raise awareness for a variety of worthy causes:

They covered their faces with the notes, which listed charity names, including Youth Mentoring, Autism Speaks and Worldwide Orphans.

The sign obscuring Stone’s face said, “Good morning! We were eating and saw a group of guys with cameras outside. And so we thought, let’s try this again. We don’t need the attention, but these wonderful organizations do:”

“Here’s to stuff that matters,” Garfield said in his message, which included a list of charities.

This isn’t the first time Stone and Garfield have manipulated the paparazzi: in 2012, they did the same thing by promoting the websites wwo.org and gildasclubnyc.org.

On that particular day, their placards stated, “We just found out that there are paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. Why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it? www.wwo.org, www.gildasclubnyc.org. Have a good day!”

Garfield astonished children at a London charity earlier this year by dressing up as Spider-Man and playing in a playground with them.

After being captured by paparazzi in New York, the Spiderman co-stars used the trick once again.

On a Tuesday afternoon in New York, the two looked urban chic. Stone wore a grey shirt tucked into a pair of baggy shorts to beat the heat. A floppy hat, dark sunglasses, a jacket, and a slouchy brown satchel completed her ensemble. Garfield dressed down with khaki slacks, Nike sneakers, a grey T-shirt, and a newsboy hat.

The adorable couple has been together for almost three years. Stone raved about Garfield on Good Morning America in April, despite the fact that they are normally tight-lipped about their relationship. She described her leading man as “He’s obviously one of the greatest actors, I think, we have alive today,” she remarked. “He’s also just a remarkable human being. I love him very much.”
