After the success of the Twilight franchise, Jamie Dornan and his group of actor pals wondered if Robert Pattinson would “fit in” with them.

Jamie, Andrew Garfield, Charlie Cox, and Eddie Redmayne “were all roommates,” Robert told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month, and he was “invited as an afterthought” to their get-togethers.

“There’d be like one slice of pizza left and I’d be like, ‘Is there any for me?'” the Batman star stated at the time.

However, during the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday (13 March), Dornan refuted these reports, telling Entertainment Tonight: “The pity invite? No. I think with Rob it’s always been like, he sort of had success earlier, so we were a bit like, ‘Does he really fit in with us?’”

While he, Andrew, Eddie, and Charlie were all trying to break into the industry, Rob’s burgeoning Twilight fame catapulted him into “a different stratosphere,” which made things unpleasant for his friends.

“We were not working and he’s working all the time. He did Twilight and was suddenly in a different stratosphere than us and we’ve sort of, not caught up, but we all started working more consistently, but yeah, Jesus, we’ve known each other a long time.”

On the red carpet, the 39-year-old also addressed Rob’s remarks, stating, “Why would you leave him at home? He was the good-looking one.”

“He was the one that got us in; he got us all the attention,” the actor joked. “He was too successful for us, I think, early on. … We all took our time. I’m still not there, compared to those guys.”

“But we had a lot of fun back in the day,” the Belfast star continued.

Of course, all’s well that ends well, and they all went on to accomplish great things.

During an interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show earlier this year, Jamie stated of his prospering buddies, “I mean, there’s loads of us who actually ended up going on to do pretty well for ourselves.”

Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan said in January that he and Oscar winner Redmayne, 40, were roommates who frequently went out with Pattinson, Garfield, and Cox. He acknowledged that they had all gone a long way from their “messy” beginnings.

According to The Independent, Dornan remarked on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, “I mean, there’s loads of us who actually ended up going on to do pretty well for ourselves. But at the time… we were pretty. Yeah, pretty, pretty messy. It’s now weird to think about it.”

“Well, particularly for Eddie and I who lived together, and Eddie’s been one of my best mates for a long time, and now we’ve got, you know, five kids between us, and we’re very much more sort of together people and stable people, probably. But we had a lot of fun then,” he said.

For his portrayal in Belfast, Dornan was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor. For his part in Coda, Troy Kotsur took home the award.
