Britney Spears slammed Christina Aguilera for ‘refusing to talk’ about her conservatorship battle and the #FreeBritney movement when asked about it on the red carpet.

Christina was on a red carpet for the Latin Grammys when she was asked if she had any contact with Britney. The singer’s publicist interjected, “No, I’m sorry, we’re not doing that tonight, thank you though, bye.” Aguilera, for her part, looked at her publicist and said, “I can’t, but I’m happy for her.”

Britney took to Instagram and posted the footage to her stories, along with the statement, “I love and adore everyone who supported me… but refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie !!!! 13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about ???

“I’m the one who went through it!!! All the supporters who spoke up and supported me thank you … Yes I do matter!”

The next clip in Spears’ Stories showed Lady Gaga being asked about Britney’s conservatorship dissolution by a red carpet interviewer, and she responded, “The way that she was treated in this business was really wrong, and the way that women are treated in the music industry is something that I wish would change. I think that she will always be an inspiration to women.”

“Thank you @ladygaga for genuinely taking your time to say something so kind. You made me cry!!! I love you!!!” Spears commented over the Lady Gaga footage.

Christina hasn’t been totally silent on the #FreeBritney movement, despite the fact that she hasn’t addressed the termination of Britney’s conservatorship. She openly backed Britney in her struggle earlier this year, in June.

On June 29, Christina tweeted a photo of the two when they were much younger, with the caption, “These past few days I’ve been thinking about Britney and everything she is going through… It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live as they wish.”

She continued: “To be silenced, ignored, bullied or denied support by those ‘close’ to you is the most depleting, devastating and demeaning thing imaginable.

“The harmful mental and emotional damage this can take on a human spirit is nothing to be taken lightly.

“Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing and her own happiness.”

“While I am not behind the closed doors of this very layered & personal yet public conversation – all I can do is share from my heart on what I’ve heard, read, and seen in the media,” Christina said in a follow-up post.

“The conviction and desperation of this plea for freedom leads me to believe that this person I once knew has been living without compassion or decency from those in control.”

“To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life,” the Beautiful singer ended.

“My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”

It’s reasonable that Britney would feel betrayed by so many individuals in her life who could have spoken up or put their support behind getting her story heard but instead chose to remain silent (and that includes, she alleges, members of her own family). But the most important thing is that she is no longer under conservatorship and can finally live her life, spend her money, and pursue her profession on her own terms.
