Even Ryan Gosling had to come up with novel methods to entertain his children when they were quarantined.

The actor, who has two daughters with Eva Mendes, Esmeralda, seven, and Amada, five, spoke with GQ about the couple’s unique parenting techniques at an event for his association with watch brand Tag Heuer on Friday.

“Our kids are young, so being separated from other kids and not being able to see family and whatnot was a difficult time for them,” The Notebook star said. “So, we did our best to entertain them. I think Eva and I did more acting in quarantine than we have in our whole careers.”

When asked if Ryan and Eva had been making “really dramatic bedtime stories with the voices,” he said, “Yeah, we spent a lot of our time just doing that.”

During the interview, the 40-year-old actor also mentioned that parenting was a driving factor in his decision to collaborate with Tag Heuer for his first-ever brand collaboration, since he spends a lot more time thinking about time.

“On a personal level, I think about time more than I used to. I have two kids and they’re growing up fast. So I keep my eye on the clock more than I used to,” he said.

Ryan went on to say that for his first Father’s Day as a dad, Eva purchased him a watch, which he viewed as a symbol.

“The symbol was what mattered,” he explained. “It meant, you’re on the clock now.”

Mendes said on Instagram in December that she was suffering with “mom pandemic guilt.” A month later, she reported that one of her kids had chastised her for spending too much time “on the phone.”

“I could tell she was taking it personally. And she’s a kid, of course she’d take it personally,” Mendes wrote at the time. “They take things personally unless we go out of our way to make it clear to them it’s not personal.”

“I apologized and I promised her I’d be mindful,” she continued. “I realized that just because I’m always home with them doesn’t mean I’m always present. ❤️”

Ryan and Eva have been in a relationship since 2011. They met on the set of their crime drama film, The Place Beyond the Pines, which was released the following year and also starred Bradley Cooper. Three years later, the couple gave birth to their first child, Esmerelda, who is now seven years old. Then, on April 29, 2016, Amada, a now 5-year-old girl, joined the family. Ryan, Eva, and their children are rarely seen at public events because the couple want to keep a low profile and raise their children away from the craziness of celebrity culture in Hollywood. But every now and then, we see the celebrities out and about with their children, generally looking as trendy and laid-back as they can be! Ryan’s latest role was in 2018’s First Man, while Eva’s was in 2014’s fantasy thriller Lost River.
