Britney Spears’ lawyer has requested the appointment of a new conservator to manage the pop star’s money.

According to TMZ, the pop star’s new lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, submitted paperwork this week asking for Jason Rubin to be assigned to his client’s conservatorship. According to his website, Rubin is a CPA with expertise with elder-financial-abuse cases and managing complex trust portfolios. Britney’s current cash assets are estimated at $2,730,454, with non-monetary assets totaling $57,666,398 according to court documents acquired by TMZ. According to the publication, this isn’t a comprehensive representation of her financial holdings because there are more Morgan Stanley accounts listed as well as real properties worth $8,455,483.

Jason Rubin is the president and co-founder of Certified Strategies. His company focuses on forensic and investigative accounting, as well as trust administration and conservatorship matters.

Britney begged Judge Brenda Penny to remove her father’s conservatorship during a recent virtual court appearance, saying she ‘just wants her life back.’ Jamie allegedly pushed the singer to go to a rehab center after she refused to incorporate a certain dance move in her performance, according to the singer.

Rosengart also filed a petition to have Jamie Spears removed as a conservator, according to The New York Times.

The CPA would have the financial authority to administer Britney’s estate, as well as the powers of attorney to make decisions about her health care and real estate, if the court grants Rosengart’s motion to have Jamie removed and Rubin take over his job. Those health-care choices have mainly been left to Jodi Montgomery, the singer’s other co-conservator. According to TMZ, Britney and Rosengart also state their wish for Rubin to pursue civil harassment restraining orders in the filing. Britney plans to attend the hearing about Rubin’s appointment, which is set for December 13th.

Rubin began his work as a staff accountant at Matson, Driscoll, and Damico after graduating from California State University with a degree in accounting. He went on to work at Kellogg & Andelson as a senior litigation services consultant, and later at CBIZ as the director of forensic accounting, litigation support, and business valuation engagements. After that, he went to work for PwC in the same position. He started Certified Strategies in 2010 after working at Howrey and subsequently Munger Tolles & Olson LLP.

Rubin collaborates closely with Maya Rubin, a former court-appointed trustee and conservator.

Maya’s employment profile claims that she has previously assisted in the reconciliation of warring families. “Maya has successfully facilitated conflict resolution and peace among family members and related parties. [She] is experienced with the elderly memory impaired as well as clients with physical and mental disabilities.”

According to Rosengart’s appeal to the court, if Spears has the competence to pick her own counsel, she “likewise has sufficient capacity to make this nomination.”

Since her conservatorship was established in 2008, Spears has fought to break free from the restrictions of her conservatorship and her father Jamie’s authority. The court recently granted her the right to hire her own lawyer, which is often not allowed for persons under conservatorships.

Judge Brenda Penny accepted asset management company Bessemer Trust’s departure from Britney Spears’ conservatorship earlier this month.
