Princess Diana said that her bulimia was brought on by her husband, Prince Charles, making a “chubby” remark and the grief of his romance with Camilla Parker Bowles.

Diana believes her battle began a week after she became engaged to Charles, when he made a remark about her physique, according to secret audio recorded for author Andrew Morton, which became the book Diana: Her True Story.

Morton revealed the secret recordings in 2017 and they expose how the fragile princess began losing weight even before her wedding day.

She said: “The bulimia started the week after we got engaged.

“My husband put his hand on my waistline and said: ‘Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?’ and that triggered off something in me.

“And the Camilla thing. I was desperate, desperate.

“I remember the first time I made myself sick.

“I was so thrilled because I thought this was the release of tension.”

Between fittings for her wedding gown, Diana dropped a significant amount of weight, and the design team had to work hard to make the legendary garment smaller.

She goes on to say: “The first time I was measured for my wedding dress, I was 29 inches around the waist. The day I got married, I was 23-and-a-half inches. I had shrunk into nothing from February to July.”

Diana also says on the tapes: “We always had discussions about Camilla, though.

“I once heard him on the telephone in his bath on his hand-held set, saying: ‘Whatever happens, I will always love you.’

“I told him afterwards that I had listened at the door, and we had a filthy row.”

The Crown’s new series is now available on Netflix, with ten fresh new episodes to watch.

The Queen, played by Olivia Colman, is the primary character in the Netflix series, which is based on the Royal Family.

Charles and Camilla’s relationship, as well as how they dated before the prince became connected with Diana, is featured in the new series of the Crown.

The show also discusses a particularly traumatic event in which Diana discovered a bracelet Charles had given his ex, which has already been addressed by numerous royal experts.

Diana’s problems have been the focus of the program, from her relationship with Charles to her fight with an eating issue.

The Crown shows a trigger notice before some episodes, informing eating disorder patients that some scenes may be disturbing.
