Scandals have always been a part of the British royal family’s history.

From extramarital affairs to secret love children, they have faced several controversies in the past.

One scandal that the future king, Prince Charles, is still “deeply ashamed” of is the infamous Camillagate phone call, according to an acquaintance.

The late Princess Diana found out early on in her relationship with Prince Charles that he was still seeing his old flame, Camilla Parker Bowles.

Diana discovered this when she saw a bracelet that Charles had made for Camilla, with the letters G and F engraved on it, which stood for Gladys and Fred – their nicknames for each other.

This discovery led to a huge fight between the couple, but Diana attributed staying with him then to being “immature.”

However, the most embarrassing moment for Prince Charles came in 1989 when a private conversation between him and Camilla was leaked to the media and published in 1993.

The recording became known as Camillagate because of its explicit content.

In the tapes, the prince can be heard saying, “Oh God.

I’ll just live inside your trousers or something.

It would be much easier!”

To which Camilla replies, “What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers?

Oh, you’re going to come back as a pair of knickers.”

He then tells her, “Or, God forbid, a Tampax.

Just my luck!”

Howard Hodgson, an acquaintance of Queen Elizabeth’s oldest son, claimed that “even today the episode troubles the prince.”

According to Hodgson, Prince Charles knows that people are not sympathetic to him or the monarchy and will recall it at the time of his coronation and in all other meaningful moments of his life.

He remains deeply ashamed of the embarrassment that he caused his mother and is deeply sorry for the pain it caused both his and Camilla’s children.

Princess Diana was reportedly disgusted with what she heard on the tapes.

She told friends that it was “sick.”

In 1994, Prince Charles admitted to having an affair with Camilla after he married Diana during a televised interview.

The following year, Diana did the Panorama interview and spoke about their extramarital affairs again.

Queen Elizabeth II then urged the couple to get a divorce which they did in 1996, one year before Diana’s tragic death.

Despite the scandal, Prince Charles went on to marry Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on April 9, 2005.

However, he still regrets the phone call and the embarrassment it caused.

Hodgson claims that even today, the episode remains a source of trouble for the prince.

It’s not the first time that members of the royal family have been caught up in scandals.

Before Megxit and Prince Andrew’s association with criminals, there was pubic mudslinging, a toe-sucking scandal, and reports of a secret love child.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage also became the subject of tabloids, and the Camillagate scandal is something that the future king will never live down.

In conclusion, the Camillagate scandal remains a dark moment in Prince Charles’s life.

The leaked phone call revealed intimate details of his relationship with Camilla, and the prince was mortified when it was made public.

Despite this, he went on to marry Camilla and remains the heir apparent to the British throne.

However, the episode continues to haunt him, and he deeply regrets the embarrassment it caused his family and loved ones.
