Christian Bale, who portrayed Batman in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film trilogy, has stated that he is not a fan of the superhero genre. In Nolan’s ‘Batman Begins,’ ‘The Dark Knight,’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ the 43-year-old actor played the legendary caped crusader.

Christian Bale was a guest on Josh Horowitz’s podcast “Happy Sad Confused” on the most recent episode. Bale was asked if he had seen any of Ben Affleck’s Batman films during the interview.

“I have not [seen Ben Affleck’s Batman],” the Hostiles star admitted. “Yes, I’m interested [in seeing it], my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was it. And, you know, I tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see.”

Perhaps that’s for the best, given thepretty ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ reviews for Justice League. Bale’s disinterest in costumed heroes does not, however, end with Batman.

“I have to confess I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I don’t know why. I’ve not seen any of the ‘Avengers’ films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good,” he added.

Many actors are ecstatic to portray comic book heroes, but Bale acknowledges that he wasn’t a big Batman fan on the paper or on screen before he began working on the films.

“I didn’t have knowledge of the graphic novels or the comics, I wasn’t an avid fan, but when I had seen the Adam West series, I really enjoyed it. I had seen some of the other films. I was ambivalent about them. It was Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One that was such a surprise to me.”

Star Wars is something Bale has stated he is a tremendous fan of. Bale also claimed that he was contacted for the part of Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which went to Woody Harrelson.

“Yes, (it was) very tempting. I not only love the films going back to my childhood but also have a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall because they did Empire of the Sun many years back. There was discussion, (and) I hope there will be future discussions,” Bale said.

Meanwhile, someone should probably contact Bale again in roughly six months. The former Batman may not have strong feelings about the new Batman just yet, but as a Star Wars fan, he’s sure to have something to say about the new Han Solo.
