While Suicide Squad is chock-full of CGI, many scenes, like Margot Robbie’s underwater fight, aren’t. Even though the sequence only required her to hold her breath for one minute, the Harley Quinn actor told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that she learned to hold her breath for five minutes.

“I worked with this amazing free-diver, and he came in and I did four sessions with him. His name’s Kirk,” she said, adding that she called him Captain Kirk. “It’s all about lowering your metabolic rate… You kinda, like, meditate underwater. It’s what free-divers do, but it’s amazing.”

She goes on to say that while she can hold her breath for a longer period of time underwater when executing an action sequence, she can now do it for a FULL FIVE MINUTES (!!!) when she’s at rest.

Fallon jokes about her newfound expertise, “You can probably rob a bank somewhere. With your talents and my ideas…”

Margot Robbie is a competitive person who believes in doing her work well and giving it her all. Robbie admitted as much, describing how she fought to hold her breath for far longer than her stunt double.

“so I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do another session,’” she says. “I got to five minutes and I was like, ‘This is above and beyond what I thought I’d get to, I’m good. I’m good with five.’”

Eventually Robbie was told “no one needs to drown over this!” With the scene requiring her to hold her breath for for around a minute.

Will Smith, Jared Leto, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne feature in “Suicide Squad” which was written and directed by David Ayer. The film will be released on August 5th.
