Jennifer Aniston has announced that she will not be reunited with her Friends co-stars at this year’s 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 52-year-old said during a guest appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that she will not be among the attendees because to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She explained, “No, I will not be going. I think Ben Winston, our producer and director, [who’s] incredible, who put the whole [reunion] together [will go].”

Aniston went on to say that her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night program is one of her first significant post-quarantine appearances, since she’s been taking it easy throughout the epidemic. “This is a big step for me to just be here,” Aniston remarked. “I’m just [taking] baby steps.”

She’s one of the few celebs who hasn’t been in front of the public in the last two years.

While the 2020 Emmys were held virtually, this year’s event will see a small number of nominees congregate in the Microsoft Theatre in downtown Los Angeles to receive their awards and honor television’s finest.

All of the Friends cast members reunited and discussed their favorite moments from the sitcom with presenter James Corden in Friends: The Reunion, which premiered on HBO Max in May. The reunion special was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, as well as Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special.

When the nominations were revealed in July, Aniston sent “extra extra special thanks” to the U.K. native for helping get the Friends gang back together.

She exclaimed on Instagram at the time, “Congratulations to my @friends family on FOUR Emmy nominations. This was such a special reunion for us and we couldn’t be happier to share it all with you.”

Aniston expressed her delight at the nominations with Entertainment Tonight. “We’re in the same category as Hamilton, so that’s the closest I’ll get to a Broadway show,” Aniston said.

For the highly anticipated special, which aired in May, Aniston was joined by former co-stars Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc. While fans were excited to see the actors reconnect, they shouldn’t anticipate them to return to Central Perk anytime soon.

When asked if she’d be willing to reprise her part in the future, Kudrow, 58, replied, “That’s all up to [creators] Marta [Kauffman] and David [Crane] and I once heard them say, and I completely agree, that they ended the show very nicely, everyone’s lives are very nice. They would have to unravel all those good things in order for there to be stories. I don’t want anyone’s happy ending unraveled.”

Aniston acknowledged being particularly careful about stepping out in public during her interview with the late-night presenter.

“I’ve been in the house a lot. I went from the Sony Studios to shoot ‘The Morning Show,’ back to my house,” she said.

Aniston has been taking every precaution imaginable to keep herself and those she cares about safe since the virus took over the globe.

She also acknowledged earlier this year that she had separated herself from some individuals because of their differing responses to the crisis.

Aniston expressed her disappointment, saying, “It’s a real shame. I’ve just lost a few people in my weekly routine who have refused or did not disclose [whether or not they had been vaccinated], and it was unfortunate.

“I feel it’s your moral and professional obligation to inform, since we’re not all podded up and being tested every single day.”
