Brad Pitt is said to have apologized to Jennifer Aniston for being an “absentee husband” and subsequently dumping her in favor of Angelina Jolie.

After meeting Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, the actor famously abandoned the Friends actress, but after separating with Ange last year, he is apparently keen to make up for whatever mistakes he made in the past.

“He’s been determined to apologise for everything he put her through, and that’s exactly what he did,” In Touch magazine reports. According to a source, “It was the most intimate conversation Brad and Jen have ever had.”

The conversation is said to have brought the two a new ‘level of closeness’.

‘Jen was overcome with emotion. All the hurt feelings and resentment she’d suppressed for years came flooding to the surface, and she broke down in tears,’ the insider stated.

According to mirror.co.uk, Pitt is also alleged to have conceded that he wasn’t always the best partner. “He apologised to Jen for being an absentee husband, for being stoned and bored much of the time. He also made amends for leaving her for Angelina,” the insider continued.

Brad and Jennifer had been married for five years when he met Angelina Jolie, whom he later married and had children with.

Jennifer told Vanity Fair magazine at the time of the breakup, “I’m a human being, having a human experience in front of the world. I wish it weren’t in front of the world. I try really hard to rise above it.

“I have to think there’s some reason I have called this into my life. I have to believe that – otherwise it’s just cruel.”

She added: “Am I lonely? Yes. Am I upset? Yes. Am I confused? Yes. Do I have my days when I’ve thrown a little pity party for myself? Absolutely.”

Brad says he fell in love with Angelina Jolie because she made him feel alive in an interview with the new US issue of Esquire magazine in 2013: ‘For a long time I thought I did too much damage – drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter.

‘A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing. I spent years f***ing off.

‘But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. It was a conscious change. ‘ This was about a decade ago. It was an epiphany.’

Brad Pitt was most recently featured in the satirical war thriller War Machine, which was distributed on Netflix in the United States. Ad Astra, directed by James Gray, will be his next film. Tommy Lee Jones also appears in the picture, which will be released in theaters in 2018.
