On Friday, Robert Pattinson, best known for his role as Batman, was spotted at Dior’s Homme fall/winter 2023-2024 Paris Fashion Week show wearing a skirt.
The 36-year-old actor paired the shimmery blue skirt with a furry brown coat, knee-high black socks, and chunky black rainboots.
Pattinson is not the first male member of the entertainment industry to don a skirt in public. Last year, Brad Pitt was seen wearing a skirt at the premiere of Bullet Train in Berlin, Germany.
When asked about his choice of clothing, Pitt stated, “We’re all going to die, so let’s mess it up.”
This trend of male celebrities wearing women’s clothing appears to have started in 2020, when Harry Styles, a pop star and actor, became the first solo male cover star in American Vogue’s history to wear women’s attire.
Actor Billy Porter, who has also been known to wear dresses in public, criticized Vogue for featuring Styles on the cover, claiming that he was the true trailblazer for men wearing dresses and that he had to “fight” his “entire life” to be able to wear a dress at the Oscars.
Porter also suggested that Styles was featured on Vogue because he is “white and straight.”
“I’m not dragging Harry Styles, but he is the one you’re going to try and use to represent this new conversation? He doesn’t care, he’s just doing it because it’s the thing to do,” Porter said.
“This is politics for me. This is my life. I had to fight my entire life to get to the place where I could wear a dress to the Oscars and not be gunned down.”
“All he has to do is be white and straight.”
