Christina Hendricks has been praised for representing a distinct body type in Hollywood, but that wasn’t always the case.

In a recent interview, the actress reveals that her voluptuous body isn’t quite the Hollywood ideal, which has caused her to miss out on a number of movie roles over the years.

The flame-haired actress, who is best known for her role as Joan Holloway in the award-winning drama Mad Men, has said it’s “outrageous” that other body shapes aren’t represented on television.

‘I auditioned for things where I knew I killed the audition. I knew I did,’ the 42-year-old stated in a recent interview with The New York Times about her battle to be hired before the successful AMC drama.

“It was like, ‘Oh, should I give you my sizes now, or…’ And they would call up and say, ‘We just don’t think that a doctor would look like that,’” she says. “I would be embarrassed to even say that out loud.”

The actress highlighted her dissatisfaction with how little progress has been made in Hollywood and the fact that it is still an issue.

“There should be a million different body types [on television].

“It’s outrageous that there aren’t. And it’s outrageous that we’re sitting here having this conversation and it’s even a thing.”

Hendricks rose to prominence after appearing in the show Mad Men, which aired from 2007 to 2015.

She wasn’t sure she’d get the part when she went in for the audition.

‘I walk [into my audition] a little bit defeated. But I just put on my game face and did it. And I got this role. And ever since then I get all these, like, amazing strong-a**ed, powerful women.’

She praises “Mad Men” creator Matt Weiner’s vision for casting her as Joan, for which she gave such a compelling performance that it’s hard to envision another actress in the character.

Hendricks adds, “It took Matt’s beautiful writing to put me in the right place. I think one of the reasons people always want to be that character is because she is so powerful and strong, but super-feminine. People couldn’t imagine you could do that and still be feminine.”

Christina previously attributed her incredible body to her time spent in Italy as a rising model.

In 2013, she told The Sun: “I started out as a model and when I went to Italy to build my book I gained 15lb from all the pasta and cappuccinos that were part of my life over there.

“I saw my body change and I loved how it changed my appearance and how it made me look more womanly and sexy.

“I give credit to my mum, who told me to feel good about my appearance and not feel embarrassed about my body because she was never worried about looking too big or feeling fat.”

She said, “I know I have a figure and I long ago decided that I wouldn’t starve myself and try to become one of those typically skinny actresses.

“I’m completely comfortable with my body.”

Hendricks also stated in an interview with Weekend magazine last year that her body should be celebrated.

She shrugged, ‘I was born with this figure. And I’m very proud of it. I think it should be celebrated, and I love fashion so I try to wear clothes that will make me look good.

‘I don’t actually think about showing it or not showing it – I just try to choose a beautiful dress that flatters me. I certainly don’t not wear something because of my figure. Having said that, I hope I’m known for other things too!’

Meanwhile, in an interview with The New York Times, she jokes that if aliens arrived on Earth and could only understand us through the movies and TV shows that had been left behind, “they would think we were all starving to death… if we all died from global warming and all the aliens found were movies. So they think, ‘This is what human beings looked like.’ They’ll think we all starved to death.”

Christina Hendricks appeared in all seven seasons of the show, from 2007 to 2015, and her performance earned her numerous accolades, including six Primetime Emmy Award nominations and two Critics’ Choice Television Award nominations.

In “Mad Men,” Hendricks played the role of a smart and ambitious office manager at the advertising agency Sterling Cooper.

Her character was known for her sharp wit, her no-nonsense attitude, and her distinctive red hair. She was often at the center of the show’s most dramatic and memorable storylines, and she was one of the most popular and well-known characters on the show.

Hendricks’s performance as Joan Harris was praised by critics and audiences alike.

She was lauded for her ability to portray a complex and multi-dimensional character who was strong and independent but also vulnerable and flawed. She brought depth and humanity to the role, and she helped make “Mad Men” one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved shows on television.

After “Mad Men” ended in 2015, Hendricks continued to act in film and television. She has starred in numerous hit movies, including “Bad Santa 2” and “The Neon Demon,” and she has made guest appearances on television shows, including “Another Period” and “The Romanoffs.”

She has also been involved in various theater productions and has lent her voice to several animated projects.

Christina Hendricks’s role as Joan Harris on “Mad Men” remains one of the most significant and memorable roles of her career.

She brought complexity and depth to the character and helped make the show a critical and commercial success. Her performance as Joan Harris remains one of the defining moments of her career.

Christina Hendricks is married to actor Geoffrey Arend. The couple met in 2007 and got married in 2009. They do not have any children.

Hendricks’s parents are Robert and Jackie Hendricks. Her father is a retired forest ranger, and her mother is a psychologist. Hendricks has two older brothers, Aaron and Edward.

Hendricks grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho, and she graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1992. She then attended the University of Georgia for a year before transferring to the Yale School of Drama, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2003.

After graduating from Yale, Hendricks moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. She worked in theater and appeared in various television shows and movies before landing the role of Joan Harris on “Mad Men” in 2007. Since then, she has continued to act in film and television and has become one of the most successful and well-known actresses in Hollywood.

She should try Italian, French and European films. They would love her; not as one dimensional as Americans.
