Nicole Kidman is so method that it hurts.  The 47-year-old “Paddington” star said this week on “The Graham Norton Show” that she re-broke a rib on the set of “Moulin Rouge” in order to fit into a corset.

She was making an attempt to lace her burlesque-dancer corset as tight as possible before falling down a set of stairs on the set of the 2001 movie.

“I hurt myself dancing in heels at three in the morning and I fell downstairs,” Kidman stated. “I then re-broke my rib getting into a corset.”

“I had this thing that I wanted to get my waist down to 18 inches, which Vivian Leigh had on ‘Gone with the Wind’ and I was just like, ‘tighter, tighter!'” Kidman explained of her 2001 role as courtesan Satine.

Kidman is perhaps one of the world’s most well-known actors. She appeared in a wide range of films and genres. Moulin Rouge, on the other hand, proved to be a real difficulty for her because it was both psychologically and physically demanding for her.

“Moulin Rouge was really hard for me because it isn’t something that comes naturally to me,” Kidman said. “I get literally so … it’s frightening to have to sing in front of people. My voice starts to go! I don’t know why, but I get terrified.”

Kidman was also wounded during a dance scene in which she was carried into the air and tore her knee cartilage during the song sequence “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”

The Australian actress is well-known for her dedication to her performances, as she acknowledged in 2011, “I’ll do anything. I like saying that as an actor. I would hope I’m very open and available. That’s what I try to do with my directors. I try to be completely open to what they want to achieve, and then I bring in my own ideas. But I’m malleable.”

On Moulin Rouge, the celebrated actor had a difficult time. Despite this, the film was a huge hit in the field and at awards shows. Moulin Rouge made nearly $179 million, at a budget of $50 million. In addition, the musical received eight Academy Award nominations. It was awarded for Finest Manufacturing Design and Best Costume Design at the end. Kidman’s performance was nominated for an Academy Award, but she lost to Halle Berry in Monster’s Ball.

While promoting the new Paddington picture, Nicole revealed the extent to which she had gone in search of a role.

The mother-of-two said that she had to learn how to throw knives for her role as the wicked Millicent in Paddington, and that she went too far in her portrayal of the bad character.

Kidman plays Milicent, a ruthless taxidermist who knows her way around a knife, in the forthcoming children’s picture. However, it turns out that the actress was a touch too enthusiastic about her weaponry. “I got obsessed with throwing knives,” she told Graham Norton, “and they ended up cutting it out of the movie because it was too frightening.”

This year, Kidman is nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin’s Being the Ricardos. She will, however, most certainly be competing against powerful performances like Spencer’s Kristen Stewart and House of Gucci’s Lady Gaga.
