Actor Wesley Snipes has been thrust into the spotlight once again after attending the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.

His appearance caused rumours to resurface about whether he was abusive towards actress Halle Berry during their past relationship.

Berry has spoken publicly about being in an abusive relationship, but never identified who the abuser was.

Snipes is currently promoting his supporting role in Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name with Eddie Murphy.

Berry spoke about her experience with domestic violence during a speech at The Mayors Fund Benefit in New York City several years ago.

She discussed being in a relationship with someone who hit her to the point that she lost most of her hearing.

Trending:

“I devalued myself and thought I wasn’t worth it. I chose partners that mimicked my father,” she said in the speech.

“It was only when I was in an abusive relationship and blood squirted on the ceiling of my apartment and I lost 80 percent of my hearing in my ear that I realized, I have to break the cycle.”

It is unclear whether Berry was referring to Snipes or someone else when she spoke about the abusive relationship.

Berry was previously married to baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997 and Eric Benet from 2001 to 2005.

Justice has always denied that he was abusive towards Berry.

In 2015, Justice claimed that Berry was referring to a “former Hollywood boyfriend” with the initials “WS.” He tweeted, “When she first reported that she had been in abusive relationships, she wouldn’t name the ‘famous’ former boyfriend (WS).” Benet voiced his support for Justice, adding that he was tweeting “some truth dis’ mornin’!”

In November 2015, Justice thanked Berry for “squashing all of the rumors in the past, that I had physically abused her, causing the hearing loss.” Berry has never made a public statement on the matter.

Berry and Snipes worked together on Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, a 1991 film about an interracial couple.

However, they have never worked together again.

Snipes attended the Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Friday as a member of the Dolemite Is My Name cast.

He played actor and director D’Urville Martin in the film.

The film is now available to stream on Netflix.

Snipes has previously had run-ins with the law.

In 2008, he was sentenced to three years in prison for failing to file his tax returns.

He was released in 2013.

In 2018, he was sued for $10 million by a man who claimed that Snipes stole the idea for the film “Blade” from him.

In addition to his film career, Snipes is also a martial artist, having trained in Shotokan karate and Hapkido.

He has also written a book on martial arts and spirituality called “Talon of God.”

Berry, who won an Academy Award for her role in “Monster’s Ball,” has been a vocal advocate for victims of domestic violence.

She has been involved with the Jenesse Center, a domestic violence intervention program, for over 20 years.

She also co-founded the Halle Berry Foundation, which supports domestic violence prevention and education programs.
