Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were a Hollywood power couple in the early 2000s, but their on-screen chemistry in Eyes Wide Shut was not their first opportunity to work together.

Director Adrian Lyne had previously considered the duo for his 1993 film Indecent Proposal, which eventually starred Demi Moore and Robert Redford.

In an interview with The Sun Sentinel, Lyne revealed that he had tested Kidman for the role of Diana Murphy, but ultimately chose Moore because she was “lovely to watch in a tactile way.”

Cruise was also being considered for the role of Diana’s husband David Murphy, but did not make the cut.

Although the couple did not end up starring in Indecent Proposal, their successful collaboration on Eyes Wide Shut six years later served as a reminder of their undeniable chemistry both on and off screen.

The Stanley Kubrick classic, which is now streaming on HBO Max, tells the story of Bill Harford (played by Cruise), a man who becomes jealous after his wife Alice (played by Kidman) admits to fantasizing about another man.

As he delves deeper into a world of lust and desire, Bill discovers a se*ual group where all is not as it seems.

The film, which was Kubrick’s final project before his death in 1999, has all the elements of a classic thriller and has earned critical acclaim over the years.

Despite their successful collaboration on Eyes Wide Shut, Cruise and Kidman divorced in 2001 after 11 years of marriage.

The two have both gone on to have successful careers in Hollywood, with Cruise starring in action-packed blockbusters like Mission: Impossible and Kidman earning critical acclaim for her performances in films like Moulin Rouge!

and The Hours.

While Cruise and Kidman may not have worked out as a couple in real life, their on-screen collaborations will always leave fans wondering what could have been.

As for Indecent Proposal, fans can only imagine what the film would have been like with Cruise and Kidman in the lead roles.
