According to authorities, Corey Haim, a 1980s Hollywood young actor who rose to fame for his battles with substance addiction as much as his acting, passed away in Los Angeles from what seems to be a drug overdose. He was 38.

The actor from “The Lost Boys” passed away at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank at 2:15 a.m. local time, according to the LA coroner’s office.

Canadian-born Haim first gained worldwide recognition in the 1980s with Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder in the 1986 film “Lucas.” His greatest success, “The Lost Boys,” with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, and Corey Feldman, as well as “License to Drive,” also starring Feldman, followed.

US media outlets have reported that Haim was discovered unconscious at his residence and that an investigation is ongoing.

Haim felt dizzy in the bedroom of his mother’s Oakwood flat and was taken to the hospital.

Winter said that while no illegal narcotics were discovered in the flat, Haim’s mother claimed that her son had been experiencing “flu-like symptoms.” Four prescription medication bottles were also discovered there.

Winter stated, “He got out of bed about 1:30 this morning, was a little unsteady on his feet.” Then Haim’s mother dialed 911.

Police Sgt. William Mann told The Associated Press that he “could have succumbed to whatever [illness] he had or it could have been drugs. He has had a drug problem in the past.”

According to reports, Haim battled cocaine and Valium addiction and was hospitalized to rehab more than 15 times.

Judy, Haim’s mother, revealed to RadarOnline that she is fighting cancer.

“I am a cancer victim and Corey was helping me at home,” she said. “He was a good boy. I’m devastated by his death.”

According to Linda Holmes of Monkey See, Haim had his greatest performance in the film Lucas.

Even as recently as three years ago, when the two appeared in a reality TV program, Corey Feldman, an actor, and Haim were often partnered together.

Before everything crumbled following confrontations with the authorities, drugs, and alcohol in public, the two were referred to as “the two Coreys.”

“Times TV critic Robert Lloyd described the show this way: ‘The premise seems to be this: Corey [Feldman] and his wife, Susie, have welcomed Corey [Haim] into their home in order to make a television show about, um, welcoming Corey Haim into their home.’ ”

On his blog, Feldman discussed the passing of his “brother.”

“This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend,” he wrote. “We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference.”

For instance, Corey Haim went from being the endearing kid brother in “Lost Boys” to being a crack and Valium addict who reportedly visited treatment before gaining more than 300 pounds.

In a 2007 “Nightline” interview, Haim discussed overcoming his drug addiction.

“I feel like … I ruined myself to the point where I wasn’t functional enough to work for anybody, even myself. I wasn’t working,” Haim said. “You know, if I’m not working, how anybody else can expect me to work for them if I’m not working. I mean physically working. My brain wasn’t working.”
