Tom Holland and Zendaya are the hottest lovebirds in Hollywood right now, sweeping the globe with their record-breaking Marvel films like Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Tom Holland recently admitted that he wanted Zendaya by his side more than ever for one particular occasion: meeting Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

After months of outright lies about their role in the sequel, which combines numerous “Spider-Man” cinematic worlds into a blockbuster crossover event, Holland, Maguire, and Garfield finally spoke about what it was like to bring three generations of the superhero together.

“It was daunting,” Holland remarked in a virtual chat with Deadline’s Pete Hammond, accompanied by Maguire and Garfield. “It was very daunting because we were a long way into shooting before you guys showed up. We were maybe three months into principal photography.”

Tom said that, like any superfan, he had been counting down the days until he could finally film alongside his Peter Parker forebears, but that as the big day approached, reality began to sink in.

“The date of the other Spider-Mans coming was etched on my calendar and I was getting closer and closer and closer, and the closer and closer I got, the more and more nervous I was,” Holland said.

Of course, the notion of making movie history is nerve-wracking, but Spider-Man can always rely on Ned and MJ for assistance.

“At our first rehearsal, I had asked Zendaya and Jacob to come with me and be there as my support system,” he explained. “Like ‘I’m going to meet these guys, I’m really nervous about it, we have to read the scene and I don’t know how it’s going to go because we’re all playing the same character and we all have to bring our own heart and soul into this and it means a lot to them and it means a lot to me. … so Jacob and Zendaya were there on that first day.”

Holland stated he “realized I had nothing to be nervous about” after meeting his would-be co-stars, and they went on to get along splendidly.

He went on to say, “It was almost a little unfair. They had us put the suits on and then just jump around in front of the camera together. That was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life.”

Garfield and Maguire both enjoyed the event, with Garfield stating, “it exceeded my expectations.”

“It was just kind of a joyful few weeks that we all got to spend together,” Garfield explained. “… I think it’s a testament to these guys that it went the way it went, which was a brotherhood, which is beautiful.”

“It was powerful for me to be working with Andrew and Tom, and powerful in a legitimately moving, emotional way,” Maguire concurred. “… I was just grateful every day. Really, it was such a rich experience… the kind of sharing of something and the brotherhood of it. It was just so rich, emotional… It was pretty wild to witness the immensity of all of this history coming together and being put into this standalone, worthwhile story… I was really touched emotionally, but I also thought it had such a sweet elegance to it. That was so amazing.”

Given that Holland, Garfield, and Maguire are the “only three actors to ever play Spider-Man in a film, and each had been through so much, on and off screen,” director Jon Watts previously told Variety that the fated meeting seemed like a “Spider-Man therapy session.”

While “Spider-Man: No Way Home” may be Holland’s final outing as the webslinger, his off-screen romance with Zendaya shows no signs of slowing down. The two were photographed on a couple’s excursion to Holland’s family’s London home over the weekend, as they’ve been increasingly open about their affair, despite some reservations.

Zendaya is most recognized for her role as Rue Bennett on the blockbuster HBO series Euphoria when she isn’t in the Marvel realm as MJ.
