Cher will sing a new rendition of “The Golden Girls” theme song on NBC’s forthcoming tribute program to late TV legend Betty White.

Cher performs “Thank You For Being a Friend” in the video. Andrew Gold first wrote and recorded the song in 1978. Cynthia Fee sang the song later, and it remained popular after the sitcom’s run on NBC from 1985 through 1992. Cher performed her rendition on the original Golden Girls stage (Stage 5) in Hollywood, where the show was recorded.

On Friday, January 28, the 75-year-old singer tweeted a sneak peek of the performance, with the caption, “Tune In @nbc Mon 1/31 10pm ET 9pm CT #CelebratingBettyWhite.”

Andy Cohen, like many other celebs, reacted to the cover with a sequence of applauding emojis. Meanwhile, admirers were enthralled by it, with one user exclaiming, “Omg Cher is doing the theme song dream come true!!!!”

According to Deadline, the show will feature remarks from President Joe Biden, Drew Barrymore, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, and others, all of whom will reflect on White’s illustrious career.

The show will include snippets and never-before-seen video that “best capture White’s irreverent tone, spirit, and impeccable comedic timing that are a hallmark of her decades-long career,” according to an NBC press release.

White died on Dec. 31 at the age of 99, inspiring a worldwide outpouring of love.

Betty’s agent and close friend, Jeff Witjas, confirmed the news in a statement at the time, saying, “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever. I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”

White was featured in a beautiful video uploaded posthumously on social media by her assistant earlier this month. White’s aide noted in the caption of the post that the video was intended to be published in honor of her 100th birthday.

In the video, she told followers, “I just want to thank you all for your love and support over the years.  Thank you so much and stick around.”

Celebrities aren’t the only ones paying tribute to White, who died in late December at the age of 99. Following her years of assistance and gifts to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California, the organization announced only a few weeks ago that it will name a planned giving program after her.

“One thing I especially appreciated about her was that she was keenly interested in the scientific research needed to ensure healthy lives for animals in our homes and in the wild,” stated Executive Director Julie Packard. “She had a curious mind and always asked lots of questions about what our team was learning to recover sea otters in the wild. I’m very grateful for her generous support and friendship to our team over so many years.”
