Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performed at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show, which took place in Tampa, Florida on February 2nd, 2020. The performance received widespread praise from fans and celebrities.

Shakira opened the show with a live rendition of her hit song “She Wolf,” followed by performances of other chart-topping tracks like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka.”

In the second half of the show, Jennifer Lopez sang some of her biggest hits, including “Jenny From the Block,” “On the Floor,” and closed with “Let’s Get Loud,” during which she was joined by Shakira.

However, despite the success of the joint performance, Jennifer Lopez was reportedly unhappy with the decision to have her share the stage with Shakira.

In a recent Netflix documentary called “Halftime,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and focuses on Lopez’s career, including her Super Bowl performance, Lopez admits that she thought the idea was “the worst in the world.”

The documentary also includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with those involved in the halftime show.

According to the documentary, Lopez was frustrated with the halftime show organizers for giving her and Shakira the same amount of time as a solo performer, rather than doubling it.

Performers at the Super Bowl halftime show typically have a time slot of 12 to 16 minutes. In the past, solo artists such as the Weeknd and Beyoncé have used this time to perform a medley of their greatest hits.

However, it is also common for multiple artists to share the stage and receive a shorter amount of time each. For example, at the most recent Super Bowl, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent all performed together, with each artist receiving a few minutes in the spotlight.

In “Halftime,” Lopez can be seen discussing with her music director, Kim Burse, how they planned on dividing their time.

“They said 12 minutes. I got kind of a good confirmation that we could have an extra minute or two, so now we’re at, like, 13, 14 minutes,” Lopez said.

“I think, Shakira, what we should have is you should have half the time and I should [have half].”

She also stated, “If it was going to be a double headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should’ve fucking done.”

In the documentary, Lopez also complained about the limited time they had, saying, “We have six fucking minutes.

We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it, we’ve got five left. But there’s got to be certain songs that we sing, though. We have to have our singing moments.”

She went on to say, “It’s not going to be a dance fucking revue. We have to sing our message.”

Despite Lopez’s objections to sharing the stage with Shakira, the halftime show was a huge success, with the performance being watched by millions of people around the world.

The show received positive reviews and was praised for its celebration of Latin culture and female empowerment.
