Taylor Swift’s Vanity Fair cover story from April 2013 has been a hot subject this week. Swift defends her decision to buy a property right next to her ex-boyfriend Conor Kennedy’s famed family compound in the article, and she also takes a shot at Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who called out Taylor’s serial dating at this year’s Golden Globes. But there’s more, as it turns out.

Kanye West interrupted her VMA address in 2009, and she has a framed photo of it.

She has it as a reminder of her path to the top, according to W.E.N.N., which sounds like an unusual motivating approach, and perhaps every time she goes past the photo, it adds fuel to her quest for success.

The incident, though, was such a blight on Swift’s night and such big news that it landed West on President Obama’s radar, with the commander-in-chief calling ‘Ye a “jacka—-” for his conduct. We know both the rapper and the president are from Chicago, so Barry was undoubtedly familiar with Yeezy previously, but having the leader of the free world call him an idiot for disrespecting Swift was a huge deal.

Swift has risen to the top since then, becoming the first performer in any genre to achieve Triple Platinum status in 2012.

Swift’s 2013 Red Tour, which will take her to 58 locations across 45 states, will begin in just a few days. Who knows, maybe when she sings ‘I Knew You Were Trouble,’ she’ll use the West photo from backstage as inspiration.
