In No Time to Die, Daniel Craig will retire his suit, martini glass, and license to murder after 15 years. But who will succeed him as James Bond? Barbara Broccoli, the franchise’s veteran executive producer, said during an interview for BBC Radio 4’s Today news program that the search for the next 007 won’t begin until 2022 at the earliest.

Many have said that as James Bond progresses, it would be appropriate for producers to cast an actor of color in the character, something producer Barbara Broccoli has indicated interest in, but she has ruled out casting a woman in the position.

The most recent addition to the hypothetical list of names was actress Lashana Lynch. The woman, who will play Agent 006 in future Bond films, appears to be the most logical candidate to continue Bond’s heritage. However, she shut out the notion in a recent interview, stating, “Nooo!” “You don’t want me!”

From Tom Hardy to Rege-Jean Page, a number of actors have been suggested by cinema fans or the performers themselves.

Barbara Broccoli explained, “We’ll keep going. Next year will be the 60th anniversary of the Bond films, so we’re looking forward to the new chapter — whatever it brings. We’re not quite sure at the moment. Right now, we just want to celebrate No Time to Die and Daniel’s extraordinary achievement.”

Here are actors who have all been linked to taking over the role from Daniel at some point:

Idris Elba

Idris Elba has long been rumored to be in the running to play James Bond (three new films in the franchise have been produced since the conjecture began in 2014), with leaked emails from Sony executives suggesting he was a favorite for the role.

“I know the rumours about Bond have always chased me. Listen, my poor mum is like, ‘One day you’re going to get it!’ I was like, ‘Mum, I’m good, I’ve got Luther!” he said.

Henry Cavill

He’s also one of the most well-known candidates for the role of James Bond in the future. The actor has also appeared in many spy-action movies, including ‘Mission: Impossible 6′ and ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’. He has also played the iconic superhero Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman.

“If Barbara [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity. At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting,” he had said in an interview in 2020.

With odds of 5/2, the Venom star has been crowned bookmaker William Hill’s favorite to play the British spy.

“If I mention it, it’s gone. You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one,” he previously told the Daily Beast about the rumors.

Broccoli stated in an interview with BBC Radio 4:

She’s in “total denial” about the whole thing. She went on to clarify that she and fellow executive producer, Michael G. Wilson, are “not thinking” about Craig’s replacement “at all” right now.

“We want Daniel to have his time of celebration,” she said. “Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

When asked if Craig will have a hand in casting his successor, Wilson said, “I can’t even think who’s even possible [to take on the character after him]. I think Daniel has had an interest in the series, he’s changed the series, [and] he’s certainly always gonna be a big part of the history of Bond.”

Tom Hiddleston is another name that has come up.

Tom received a Golden Globe for his role in the thriller The Night Manager. He is probably best recognized for his role as Loki in the Marvel world.

“What can I say that you don’t already know? It’s interesting in itself that I’ve suddenly become very aware of what I’m saying, is it not?

“Because there’s something about what I’m saying that becomes the story. Not for you, but the world outside. Whatever I say, I’ve found, generated more questions,” he said to the rumors.

Richard Madden

Since his breakout performance in the Netflix web series “Bodyguard,” which premiered in 2018, Madden has been a leading contender for the part. Madden had even been the bookies’ favorite to be the next James Bond in the same year.

Madden, on the other hand, had put an end to rumors that he would be the next Bond. “It’s all just noise. By March, there will be another British TV show with another young male actor, and then he’ll be the next James Bond for the following two months,” he said in a 2019 interview.

Rege-Jean Page

The Bridgerton actor rose to prominence after starring in Netflix’s raunchy historical drama as the dashing Duke of Hastings.

When questioned about the Bond rumors, the 31-year-old Bridgerton star told Jimmy Fallon, “I think the internet thinks a lot of things, that’s one of the more pleasant ones, so I’m pleased as far as that goes.

No Time to Die will be released in cinemas across the United States on Friday, October 8. The film had its international debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Tuesday, September 28.
