Actor Luke Evans has shown interest in taking over as James Bond when Daniel Craig steps down following his next adventure as the British spy.

If he is cast as 007, he will be the second Welsh actor to play the character after Timothy Dalton.

Dalton was the fourth actor to play Bond on the big screen, appearing in The Living Daylights in 1987 and Licence to Kill in 1989.

“I think I’ve cut my teeth very well in movies I’ve done and I’ve enjoyed every second of it. It’s a phenomenal job, a phenomenal franchise, an incredible role,” the Aberbargoed actor remarked.

“I have to say though, it’s a daunting task for any actor to play the role after Daniel Craig. No one knows what’s happening.

“It’s a very secretive process and it’s a wonderful role. I would jump at the chance, as would many actors in my position, so we shall see.

“It will be an exciting casting moment for the Bond production and I wish whoever gets it the best of luck.”

Evans is the latest in a long line of British actors whose names have been floated as possible Bond replacements. Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page emerged as a front-runner in January, while Spider-Man actor Tom Holland joked that he looked “pretty good in a suit” in February.

The Welshman already has a long list of credits, including Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty And The Beast, Bard in The Hobbit movie, and Owen Shaw in the Fast And Furious trilogy.

He recently flaunted his chiseled figure after eight months of intense workouts.

“I love my food and I like wine and it’s really tough. What I miss most is alcohol. When everyone is having a drink and you can’t it stops you going out as much,” he remarked of the training.

“Booze is a nightmare for empty calories and you can’t train the day after. Socializing and enjoying a night out — not doing that is the hard bit.”

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Idris Elba will be the next James Bond.

Other recent additions to the list of contenders include Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), and Tom Hiddleston.

Hiddleston, who will next be seen in the Disney+ series Loki, recently admitted that he understands why people want him to be the next Bond. In a recent interview, Hiddleston remarked of the 007 rumors, “What can I say that you don’t already know? It’s interesting in itself that I’ve suddenly become very aware of what I’m saying, is it not? Because there’s something about what I’m saying that becomes the story. Not for you, but for the world outside. Whatever I say, I’ve found, generated more questions.”

No Time To Die will be Daniel Craig’s final film in the James Bond franchise. The film will be released on October 8, 2021. Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Lea Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, and Ralph Fiennes feature in the picture. The film was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and the script was written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The film’s soundtrack was composed by Hans Zimmer, while the film’s cinematography was done by Linus Sandgren.
