Charlize Theron seems to be quite serious when it comes to filming combat sequences in her films.

The South African-born actress, who was spotted wearing a brace on her left thumb during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, claimed she’d hurt herself while filming her latest film, The Old Guard, according to the Daily Mail.

“I have now changed my career. Yes, I am a professional bowler,” she joked, referring to her hand cast, which looks like a bowling hand guard.

“It’s not as cool as I thought it was going to be,” the actress said of the cast. “This is so stupid. I did an action movie and I tore the ligament off the bone fighting.” She added, “I messed up my elbow, as well.”

Theron described her ligament as “fabric,” adding that surgeons “mold it for hours” around the hand.

Kimmel advised that Theron hide the fact that the glove is a result of an injury by selling it as a hot new style. “It’s hard for girls to put their arms through sleeves, though,” she responded. “That’s the only thing.”

Theron said that she first underestimated the severity of her injuries. “I’ve been walking around with this injury for two months. How badass is that?” she said. “I didn’t know that it was anything. I just was like, ‘Toughen up. Come on.’ And then I was told by a doctor that it was basically just floating around and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting. That’s why I’ve only been using these four fingers.’”

However, this isn’t the 44-year-old’s first accident while making a movie.

She was most recently injured in 2017 while training for Atomic Blonde. The American actor was cast in the role of a fugitive secret agent. However, when filming a thriller action picture, Theron reportedly cracked her teeth from clenching her jaw too tightly, according to reports. The 44-year-old performer said in an interview with worldwide entertainment media that the damage occurred in the first month of training and that it was the most intense tooth ache she had ever experienced. Furthermore, during her appointment to the dentist, it was discovered that she could require surgery that included the extraction of one of her teeth as well as root canals. Even back in 2004, Theron had a neck injury while filming Aeon Flux, a science fiction picture.

The 44-year-old actress is presently waiting for the debut of the animated feature ‘Addams Family,’ in which she plays Morticia Addams.

On October 11, the film will be released in theaters.
