They departed the White House and dived into the private sector — especially the entertainment industry. Barack and Michelle Obama, who have their own production company and are working on a Netflix slate of material, were photographed vacationing on Italy’s Lake Como last week.

Over the weekend, the Obamas resumed their lavish European vacation, spending time in Italy with two special friends: George and Amal Clooney!

Photos from the trip show the couples flying across the Northern Italian lake near the Clooneys’ property before disembarking onto the shore.

The pool was only half-full when the Obamas arrived, with ice cold water, according to the local paper Corriere Della Sera. George Clooney’s security called a local plumber, who arrived just in time to fix the problem.

“What a race,” Dante Pennè, the plumber, told Corriere Della Sera. I arrive and they are all upset. [Clooney’s bodyguard] says to me: hurry up, hurry up!” Pennè was able to get things functioning again and received Clooney’s personal appreciation. The actor was reportedly wearing a “sweaty” Casamigos T-shirt when told Pennè, “Thank you, I was worried.”

Michelle Obama and their 20-year-old daughter, Malia Obama, were also in attendance, according to ET. Sasha Obama, a recent high school graduate, also joined the family on their European holiday.

The former first couple arrived in Milan at midday on Saturday, escorted by a phalanx of security personnel and cars.

“We often see important people arriving here in Milan, but rarely have I seen such an impressive security operation,” a source says. “They even had one big van just for their luggage and a police helicopter which took off as soon as they departed from the airport to escort them all the way to their final destination”

The former US president donned a dark gray suit to the event, while the Catch-22 actor sported a lighter gray suit. Michelle wore a white shirt and black trousers, while Amal wore a floor-length floral gown.

In 2012, Obama discussed his friendship with Clooney, describing him as a “wonderful guy.”

“The truth is we got to know each other because of a substantive issue,” then-President Barack Obama told ET. “He is a terrific advocate on behalf of the people of Darfur, and to the people of Sudan who’ve been brutalized for a long time.”

“And so when I was a senator — this was well before I was president — that was an issue that I was working together on a bipartisan basis, and George, who had traveled there, done documentaries there, and was very well-informed, came to testify in Congress. And so we got to know each other, and he is a good man, and a good friend,” Obama continued.

George threw a $40,000-per-plate fundraiser for Barack at his Los Angeles home. During which Barack mentioned that Shepard Fairey’s renowned “Hope” poster was inspired by a photograph taken at an event both men attended. “People don’t realize that the photograph of me is actually me sitting next to George,” Barack told guests at the event.

While the Obamas’ office refused to comment on their plans, citing their position as private individuals, the four were avidly followed by local media and tabloid press. They also paid a visit to another famous pal, Bono, who lives in Èze.

The Clooneys and the Obamas were reportedly on their way to a charity event for The Clooney Foundation for Justice, which the Clooneys established to “[advocate] for justice through accountability for human rights abuses around the world.”
