Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman in the recently released Batman V Superman has left viewers breathless, yet the actor nearly missed out on the part.

During a recent interview with Conan O’Brien, the British actor confessed that when he originally got the call, he was doing something far more important —- playing a computer game of Warcraft when director Zack Snyder called to tell him that he had gotten the role in Man of Steel.

On Conan O’Brien’s show, Cavill deadpanned, “I was playing World of Warcraft, and I had my priorities straight.”

“And then I looked across at the last moment and I saw Zack Snyder’s name on the phone, so I grabbed the phone and then missed it. And…. so, I called him back immediately and said ‘I’m really sorry, I was saving someone’s life.’

Of course, we know that all worked out for Cavill because he is currently co-starring in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the highest-grossing picture of all time at the moment. However, it’s weird to think that World of Warcraft, of all things, nearly lost him the part of one of history’s most well-known superheroes.

Before the big WoW reveal, O’Brien asked Ben Affleck the same question, and his reaction was typically Bruce Wayne: he wasn’t sure if he wanted to portray the Caped Crusader at first, presumably due to memories from his stint as Daredevil.

Affleck was convinced and joked that he was definitely the guy for the job when Snyder told him the Batman he’d be portraying was “older and he’s really f*cked up and he’s broken down and he’s on the edge of moral bankruptcy.”

The film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently in cinemas.
