Ellen DeGeneres proved why she’s one of the most popular TV personalities on Twitter tonight at the Oscars, when one of her selfies not only set a new record, but also seemed to break Twitter itself.

At Sunday night’s event, host Ellen DeGeneres gathered some of the greatest names for a mega-selfie. Jared Leto (side of face only), Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum (back row), Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper (front and center holding the camera), Brad Pitt, Peter Nyong’o (brother of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o), Lupita Nyong’o, and Angelina Jolie are among the lucky 11 who made the cut.

On her own account, DeGeneres tweeted the photo with the caption: “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars”.

DeGeneres’ photo received 871,000 retweets and 210,000 likes in less than an hour. President Barack Obama, who set the previous record with his election night triumph photo of him hugging wife Michelle Obama, which was retweeted 777,000 times, was easily exceeded by her.

DeGeneres’ selfie has 2,402,647 retweets and 1,167,326 favorites at the time of writing.

Ellen’s twitpic is also attributed to temporarily “breaking” Twitter. “Twitter sent out an apology because all of the retweeting disrupted service for more than 20 minutes after 10 p.m. ET,” according to The Associated Press.

She began the night by posting a photo of herself looking out at the star-studded audience to her 25 million followers.

She announced to the crowd that she would be live-tweeting the ceremony and hash-tagging her solo film #oscars and #blessed. When she shared it, she used the hashtag #blurry. The view features a hazy profile of the comic with a small portion of the audience in the backdrop.

For her on-stage photos, DeGeneres looked to be using a Samsung Galaxy phone, which was a sponsor of the awards presentation.

Backstage, however, the program host uploaded another — much clearer — photo of herself with actor Channing Tatum… on her iPhone, according to technology writer Mark Gurman.
