Do you think Harry Potter would be the same without Daniel Radcliffe?

The actor claims that his parents first turned down the magical movie role. According to The Sun, the 22-year-old actor, who co-starred with Emma Watson in all eight Harry Potter films, says they expressed concern that the film might negatively impact his life.

Filmmakers were eager to get Daniel in for an audition after seeing him in the BBC drama David Copperfield, but the star’s parents were skeptical after learning that if he got the role of the young wizard, he would have to do six films, all of which would be shot in Los Angeles.

“Chris Columbus had seen David Copperfield and said, ‘I want to audition this boy,'” Radcliffe tells the Hollywood Reporter. “They went to my parents, and, at the time, the deal was to sign on for, I think, six films, all to be done in L.A., and my mum and dad simply said, ‘That’s too much disruption to his life. That’s not gonna happen.’

“I didn’t know any of that had gone on. And then, maybe three, four months down the line, the deal had changed, and it was going be to shoot two films, and they’d both be done in England, and so they said, ‘Okay, we’ll let him audition.’ And then it all went from there, really.”

After eight incredible Harry Potter films, Radcliffe is one of the highest-paid actors in the business, with a net worth of roughly US$78 million.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe, who is currently starring in a Broadway musical, stated that being a superstar has been “vile” and “ghastly.”

‘There are, obviously, upsides to it, but I’d say that the upsides, for me, are the upsides that come from my job rather than from the celebrity aspect.

‘I mean, celebrity is horrible – that’s the truth, is that it’s a ghastly, vile thing.’

On Friday, December 2, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Two will be available on DVD.
