Taylor Swift has slammed Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia for making a “deeply sexist” remark about her dating life.

On Tuesday, the 31-year-old American singer-songwriter, who has 88.5 million Twitter followers and is the sixth most followed person on the platform, specifically mentioned the streaming service in her complaint.

Swift, 31, also posted a subtitled photograph of Ginny’s remark to Georgia: “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back,” Swift wrote. “How about we stop degrading hard-working women by defining this horse s—- as FuNnY.”

‘Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you,’ she said, before adding a broken-heart emoji and pointing out the irony that the dispute was starting out on the opening day of Women’s History Month.

Swift’s followers were outraged, and the hashtag #RESPECTTAYLORSWIFT became a trending topic on Twitter over the weekend.

Several Swift fans reacted angrily to the joke, pointing out that a character in another Netflix comedy, Degrassi: Next Class, claimed: “Taylor Swift made an entire career off her exes.”

The dual references, which Swift’s fans felt were insulting and misogynistic, led to such comments as, “She knew it when she said ‘no one says that about ed sheeran, no one says that about bruno mars, they’re all writing song about their exes, their current gf’s, their love life, and no one raises a red flag there.’” Taylor has already discussed the topic in interviews.

“okay no it’s not sitting right with me the netflix has two taylor swift projects on their platform and they are okay with treating her like this!!! RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT,” another fan wrote.

Another added, “If those script writers thought of these lines as jokes, are they really that dumb? Being misogynistic and slut-shaming people has never been a joke. Taylor has been slut-shamed throughout her entire career and she doesn’t deserve it, no one else does! RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT.”

“i’m just so…… women cant even exist at this point without being shamed, it’s almost like they forget that taylor has been in a committed relationship for about 5 years now…. i can assure you the joke is SO old and not even the slightest bit funny. RESPECT TAYLOR SWIFT,” a third fan shared.

‘When I was like 23 and people were just kind of reducing me to, kind of making slideshows of my dating life and putting people in there that I’d sat next to at a party once and deciding that my songwriting was like a trick rather than a skill and a craft,’ Taylor told Apple Music’s Beats 1 in 2019.

‘It’s a way to take a woman who’s doing her job and succeeding at doing her job and making things. And in a way, it’s figuring out how to completely minimize that skill by taking something that everyone in their darkest, darkest moments loves to do, which is just to slut shame.

For the last four years, Swift has been dating actor Joe Alwyn, who was just announced to star in the TV version of Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends.
